I have the PS2 one, so I'm a bit concerned now about the extent of the region-locking. It does check for an updated system file before checking your account, so maybe when the EU servers go live it...

Hmmm, I've just done some testing with Network mode and my US copy of PSU doesn't even recognise my UK PlaySega account exists. It's recognises my US account, but tells me to go buy a Guardians...

Hope you can get something worked out, but if you can't it's not as bad as it could be.

Story and Extra modes are passing the time for me much more than I thought they would, and I'm not too...

I'm in the UK, so can't go online either. But I've got a US PS2 and PSU, so been playing through Story and Extra mode, and so far I like all the changes.

If you do go with a US account and get it to work, it would probably be best to stick with it. Or swap over later to a new UK account and ask someone you trust to hold any items etc. as someone else...

I'm going to play Story mode over the weekend, and hopefully I'll get into that and that will make the wait until the EU release better.
