I love the way AoI changed the flow to melee with just attacking and the just countering. It changed the game from the button mash fest to something requiring a bit more... focus, I guess. ...
Are your experiences pre or post AoI? I read somewhere that the firing rates were sped up, for chousei-sou at least, in AoI.

Maybe keep both. Giresta before a skirmish -> dualies to you hearts content -> resta after.
To the OP, get giresta as the auto-heal will alleviate the need to cast resta as often.

As stated before, they're a really good complement to whips especially since the WT whips have a long animation. The shadoog will get a good number of hits in during the average full combo.
I use shotguns all the time and I would say the shotgun is noticably more accurate than a grenade launcher. It's rare to see more than one 0 at 5 separate targets.
