I've yet to buy and listen to it, though I thought the Malkin Jewel was alright. Its different, but not bad. I gotta give it to them though. Each album, they manage to make something completely different, yet have that same, distinct sound.

This morning I woke up to the news of MCA from The Beastie Boys passing away. I listened to a lot of Beastie Boys back then. As a teen, growing up in NYC, hearing that kinda makes me sad. So I'll just be jamming to that tonight. Rest in Peace, MCA.

I tried to find a video for Part 3 but no luck. This'll do nicely though!

I think Noctourniquet is about the most "out there" album they've done so far, yet it's strangely accessible as well. The song structures are a bit more conventional (as they were on Octahedron) but the composition and technicality of the songs themselves are just bonkers. As my post implies, I've highly enjoyed the album, so I hope you do too. ;D

Man, that hit me like a gut punch yesterday. I grew up with the Beastie Boys and I've followed their entire career. They too were always doing something new, unique, and exciting. I really thought their silence on MCA's condition and the release of Hot Sauce Committee last year meant that he'd made some headway, but life's pretty crappy sometimes. Definitely a pioneer and his influence on music as well as my musical tastes in general will be missed.

Blasted Paul's Boutique and Check Your Head all day yesterday. Their finest works in my opinion.
