Problems saving on Dreamcast - solved

Now, this is NOT for PSO but for Phantasy Star 3.
Yeah, to make a long story short, my brother gave me all his DC games and there was an Obsidian disc in them. Thing is, I can't figure out when the game DOES save and when it doesn't.
I have progressed until near the end of the first generation and am trying to save money, but I can't save anymore.
I used to save in game (at the inn) then shut down the DC. But now, I save in game normally, then shut the DC down -> didn't register.
I save in game, then in the Obsidian menu -> didn't register.

Solved : after saving in game, soft resest to get to the game submenu,selct save and validate WITH START, otherwise it won't work.

Maybe your VM card is full? That's all I can think of.

But wouldn't the game be saved on the already existing file? That's what I don't understand.
