Help with widescreen HDTV/monitor

So I finally ditched my 19 inch CRT monitor from the 1980s and bought a 32 inch LCD HDTV to use mainly as a monitor for my PC.

Heres the problem, my desktop and games ect, seem to be streched by the TV to fit the aspect ratio. I'm running windows XP pro with an ATI Radeon x1600 graphics card. Is there anyway to set up the graphics display specifically for a widescreen monitor, or do I have to upgrade my graphics card?

What I did when I got my HDTV/monitor was this: Right Click the Desktop>Properties>Settings and adjusted the settings to 1366x768 without having to upgrade the graphics card. This only helped me with my Desktop and any program run on it, like an internet browser, but games force a resolution change for me and usually just show the black bars on the side. This is with Windows XP Home Edition with an ATI Radeon XPRESS 200 graphics card though, so I'm not sure if you can do it the same way.

Samsung + 8800 Ultra = win.
As for your problem is there is a setting to were it is set to Widescreen? If there is remove it, that might help.
