It's the masculine form of the Latin word for "soul." It is also a term coined to describe a masculine, subconcious in females, where it is a female subconcious in males, refered to as Anima.

I don't think you have to worry about names being taken like you would within WoW, or DFO.

Everything is based off of your Friends Code anyway for Online Play, that'd be dumb to have your character Offline be Animus, and then go online only for them to force-change your name.

What does it matter? It's a cool name use it.

Granted, I understand the concept of being decent, but Animus is far from original - I don't mean that as an insult - it's just the fact that it's a real life word, it isn't like you made up a name. Because then I can see someone being pissy about someone taking it.

Whatever, i'm ranting already and i haven't even started drinking yet. Animus is a fine [and cool] name. Both the name itself and in meaning.

Go for it. Remember, if there's snow on the field, plow it from both ends.

I usually name my characters after plants or trees. My first character's name is snapdragon though.
