PSO world is where you are right now. It's not a game itself, it's a website devoted to a game. Originally this site was developed to host gameplay information about Phantasy Star Online. This is still true, but it has since expanded and now covers a variety of online Phantasy Star games.

    The games themselves are:

Phantasy Star Online (All Dreamcast versions)
Phantasy Star Online Episode 1 & 2 (Gamecube and Xbox)
Phantasy Star Online Episode 3 (Gamecube)
Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst (PC)
Phantasy Star Universe (PC, PS2, and Xbox360)
    Phantasy Star Portable (Sony PSP)
Phantasy Star Portable 2 (Japan only Sony PSP game)
    Phantasy Star Zero (Nintendo DS)

Most of these games you have to purchase, though many aren't available in retailers anymore.

Online play has been terminated for all Phantasy Star Online versions except Blue Burst in Japan. Private Servers are available for everything except Xbox PSO, but they cannot be named here so use Google if you're interested in that.

Phantasy Star Universe for PC and PS2 will be shut down March 30th. It's already too late to join if you're not on already. Xbox360 Phantasy Star Universe will continue normal operations.

Phantasy Star Zero has free online play via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

I don't know much about Phantasy Star Portable so I can't help you there.

This should clarify things up for you.

Phantasy Star Portable requires a bit of work to use ad-hoc mode online. Most people use their PS3s to get online with it.

Phantasy Star Portable 2 can be imported from the Japanese PSN Store or ordered online. Since PSP is region free, you can play Portable 2 on any system. It also has free online play, but it's all in Japanese.
