It's a non-profit fan film. There is no infringement if we're not selling the stuff. We have kicked around the idea about possibly buying the rights to do it properly though. It's something we're going to look into. And no, we're going with real flesh-and-blood actors, not CG.

Actually Sega may not sue you but they do have the authority to shut you down. This was a non profit Legend of Zelda fan film that was recently shut down by Nintendo.

I appreciate you looking out for our best interests. You are right. At the very most, they would have the authority to shut us down if we didn't request the rights first. I have some friends who created a very good Capcom-based card game and they approached Capcom directly to ask for permission to use their name. Capcom told them that if they paid $10,000 that they could legally be allowed to use their name for the card game. Unfortunately, money was an issue for them and the project was put on indefinite hold. If I alone saved a chunk out of every paycheck, I could probably have enough to meet that price in about two years. We are all very passionate about the project, especially the co-producer and we are willing to spend big bucks to keep this movie in production. We have already slated a couple thousand dollars to be funneled into this project. At it's current legal state, yes, Phantasy Star Prime can be shut down if Sega saw the movie and didn't like what we did...

But I say, let them come. They can shut us down if they want, but one way or another, this movie is being made. Everyone involved in this project is so passionate about it that we aren't going to let anything stand in the way of making this dream of ours a reality. If we have to, we will just go the way of Team FourStar. Toie Animation shut them down (mostly) on YouTube, but now they have their own .com where they share their creativity with the world with a more backdoor approach. If this is what we wind up having to do to share this production with the world, then we will. They can shut us down on one site after the next, but they will not kill our dreams for this movie.

And, if the movie is a hit, then we WILL be going about it properly and over the next couple years taking the steps to legalize this film. I hope you all enjoy the movie as much as I enjoyed writing it!

It is a prequel to the entire Phantasy Star series. There are references throughout the movie to the Algo System, the system in which the events of Phantasy Star 1 take place.

UPDATE: 5/24/10

Three days ago I finished writing and editing the script, and believe me, it was murder on the printer! Twelve 47-page scripts is a lot of paper and ink! :P It's looking like the runtime for this movie is going to be around two hours. I can't wait for filming, but I ESPECIALLY can't wait to film the final fight! It's going to be epic!

The actors and I have been running lines constantly for the past two days and getting into character. Once we have purchased all the equipment we need, filiming will begin. Filming is currently scheduled to start sometime in mid-August, but we may begin earlier if we get all the camera and lighting equipment in before then. The weapons and CAST costume may carry over a little longer than that, but in the meantime we can start filming the scenes that don't require these things.

UPDATE: 5/26/10

More production pictures. Sarah, one of the three protagonists, had her first costume shoot two nights ago. We were going to shoot photos of her in an area that would look similar to Forest 2 from PSO. It was even cloudy, but we waited too long and it got dark. That wasn't about to stop us from shooting and having a good time. :P I haven't had the chance to add Sarah's line shield effect yet.

The cast of Phantasy Star Prime will be attending NekoCon 2011 and will be giving away free DVD's of the movie, which will be packed with bonus featrues such as blooper reels, the making of the movie, alternate scenes and endings, and a very special alternative version of the final fight scene! And if we're ready soon enough, we will try to make it to AMA 2011 as well, which should be around the beginning of May.

UPDATE: 5/28/10

So, reviewing our inventory with the co-producer, we now have all the materials we need to start filming, save for the camera itself, a few more green screens, and the weapons and CAST suit! We will probably begin shooting within the next few weeks.
