I am not a pro artist, but doodling something like this under 5 minutes helps me a ton to draw the rest of the picture. I do this with a 40px brush @ a 6000x8000px canvas with the brush opacity on 30%.

Try setting your brush size linked to the pen pressure of your tablet pen. That way it will be easier to control the line thickness. Combine that with either 30% opacity or pen pressure linked to your opacity. That way your tablet will feel more like a pencil.
pen pressures on. I choose to do it this way mainly because it acts airbrush like, and its loose enough for me to go back and go thinner and stronger with a 2nd layer of lines (again leading to result picture). Sloppy blurry line makes it so I don't feel stuck and limited to going that direction, but i'll keep your idea in mind.
