Mostly old stuff here lately. Always loved doo-wop and 50's malt-shop kinda music.
Ran across some of my old Motörhead cassettes the other day and gave them a listen. They're still pretty good, though I'm not into metal like I used to be... yet this song really stuck out. I remember it touching me profoundly as a kid, and it still has the ability to wrench my heart. One of the best, and saddest, war songs that I've ever heard.
Btw, next year will be the 100 year anniversary of the start of WWI. It's almost strange to think that that entire generation of veterans is gone forever now. It was such a seminal event in human history. "The Great War", the war that was thought to end all wars. Growing up there was always at least a few surviving veterans left to tell their stories. It's an odd and humbling thing to witness living history pass into history-history.
