I always thought the PSE burst numbers were tied to the (for lack of the proper term) sector number (e.g. D-5, A-4, C-2 etc.) you trigger them while in a playfield. I noticed that I'd get to PSE level 5-7 in a given type then enemies would stop spawning so I'd move, kill a few and see the same PSE type level up again but this time it's lower.

This could all be a coincidence and totally incorrect hypothesizing though.

I think that's due to the PSE level decreasing slowly between the time enemies "drop" their flashes of light.

@rizen are you sure about those blue and red dots? btw by red do you actually mean a purplish pinkish color? and are they not dots so much as triangles?

if what i say above is correct, i'm pretty sure you're just looking at target enemies for emergency codes. i don't think i've ever seen distinctly red dots on my zoomed in radar. circles tend to be players as well. no dots, only triangles.

this is a great thread regardless, and if we ever get solid info on how pse bursts work exactly i'd hope that -everybody- reads through this thread's opening post which i hope will be edited to conglomerate all current and reliable information on them.

Levels dont decrease, they vanish entirely. More than likely, you got lv5 or something, it went dead; then you got the PSEs prepped for you, then hit lv2 again.

What about the trigger for the "One More" where the timer has run out and it starts up again? How does that activate?

hmm, I'm gonna have to try a few things out with some friends and see if I can get a good reading on how to specifically trigger one. It'd go a long way for those of us who like to run multiplay areas for EXP after we've done all of the missions that we can.

I am planning on doing some PSE research this weekend. If you are interested, leave me a PM.

I remember someone mentioning the screen pulsing/shaking effects were related to a Code being nearby, something I can neither confirm or deny because in the times I've had my screen suddenly pulse, usually nothing comes of it. However, a lot of the theories in here do seem to make sense on the triggers for PSE. I'm going to need to pay more attention to the various burst colors I get and see how they affect the PSE levels, and how the boxes correlate into things.

What I suspect is the case on the boxes, based on what people are saying here, is that each one is a PSE effect, and their colors relate to a specific type of PSE. For example, you get the Spectrum PSE box with red bars, my guess would be that your next photon drop from an enemy that you get of that color will give a larger amount than normal. Granted, I don't have anything to really verify this, and it's nothing more than a hypothesis, but it does make sense when you think about it in this way.
