Also received a 13* (twin mechgun, amusingly unexpectedly from the first run of the quest) from the rare version. So maybe.

Perhaps there'll be someone who found one from a normal gryphon to (fortunately) prove us wrong.

if I'm not mistaken, the rare version of any boss has a hidden boosted drop rate. Don't quote me though. That's just what I've heard.

Considering the pile of 10* every single rare griffon I've beaten up has dropped, I'm fairly convinced that's true.

I got 13* TMG and 13* bow from Gryphon, both from normal ones.

It's not secret at all... Rare mobs have higher drop chances for weapons.
