Are there any guides on how to recolor an costume to match what an NPC wears? Outside of simply taking a screenshot and working in the salon. Or... any that give the right one alongside creation details?

Depends, what NPC are you interested in? Most NPCs with recolorable outfits had their outfits released with the right color already, so you can just buy the right one. If the right color is too expensive, there's no way but to take a screenshot and play este hell. An overlay program makes cloning life much easier.

Rupika is the default female newman 3 in the salon. Just pick that when creating a new char.
Or manually change the face/body presets to 3 if it's an existing character. Her accessories are default and you can buy the right outfit at the NPC costume shop.

Mainly Patty, Tea and Quna's Zelsius. While I can preview the outfits on the shop, different lighting makes me wonder how accurate they are.
