    I would treat your first game more as a learning experience. That’s at least how I approach it. There is a lot you need to learn. Same goes for making a game more commercial (something I don’t really have to worry about). I can imagine a platformer (especially a metroidvania type of platformer), would have a larger audience then a shmup. Shmups have become quite a niche these days. The last one I have played was probably Jets ‘n Guns, which is easily 13+ years ago.

    The new project is looking good!

    Thanks! but it's more like a far away in the future project.

    My actual shmups isn't my first game. I've been working on two serious games before. One lost due to hard drive failure and no backup (stupid me I know), the other was canceled because of the game studio split up and I didn't have any motivation to continue working on it alone.

    And even if wings Of Bluestar is my 3rd serious game, I'm indeed learning from it, especially the commercial aspect, because the first one was a free to play and the 2nd was free + ads. And yeah, the shmups genre being so niche isn't really helping, but I can't help since I'm a big fan of it.

    Just to compare, this fake screenshot got more likes on FB than all my Wings Of Bluestar posts combined lol.

    So, as mentioned before; if WOB won't sell well, I'll definitely switch to platformers.

    If it doesn’t sell, you can always put naked girls in the background. Those seem to do fine on steam maybe you should do gamedev streams on Twitch to gather an audience.

    Sorry to hear that your kickstarter didn't make it. Wish you best on your next project.

    Anyway since your next project is most probably involving investment to characters, I'd recommend that you further sharpen your dynamic gesture and figure drawing skills (It's you who draw them right?). I highly suggest Michael Hampton's Figure Drawing: Design and Invention. Just take an hour or two per day for this.

    Yeah of course, it's best to have something finished especially after 2 years, gives more power on the next project.
