The best I can tell, the gaming verticals part of the business (the part that offered hosting to sites like PSO-World) fell under the division that was shut down in February 2013.

The Gamespy shut down this refers to is the part that hosted multiplayer servers and was owned by Glu.

Man, I remember spending hours upon hours playing BF1942 on their servers. The service was kinda shitty, but you could find the best games on their servers.

So long to our old home, if anyone remembers the says when PSOW was hosted by them, other than me. :P
    I don't understand.
Does that mean Glu is shutting down the entire website too? Or just the online games??

The website Gamespy stopped updating over a year ago: http://pc.gamespy.com/articles/122/1227460p1.html

This is the Gamespy online service that's being shut down in May. Any games that used Gamespy for handling matchmaking and multiplayer services will have its online gameplay turned off.

I remember when Gamespy first came around. They were decent enough at the time. That they hosted a number of pretty great places under their "Planet" moniker is what I shall remember. Not so much the nearly decade long process of dying. After about 2004 I don't recall going much to Gamespy (or IGN for that matter). Their game hosting however I never much cared for. But, there have been few hosting services that I can recall being good. WON and MSN Games Network (I think that's what it was called, again, a decade ago) for instance were both other annoying examples.
