The universe I've written for over 20 years is an action-oriented paper/pencil RPG with Wargame elements. The name comes from the fact that humans arrived to a star that was dying from losing its energy and managed to revitalize the star and its worlds prior to being assimilated into the world. Humans only exist for the first chapter of the story, along with shadows, spirits, and natives. It is also explained that Human beings are very close to reaching a new physical evolution, and depending on their interaction with the world and its inhabitants, the evolution...though unstable will be different.
After the first chapter....the first civilization is founded and by the end of the first massive war, there are six races...
Ari: Humans who were touched by the shadows and absorbed into their realm. Areas like the Tear of Shadows and The Calming Dark, are popular places in the shadow realm. Finally having bodies to traverse the natural world, they waged war against the surface world, nearly causing their own extinction through their racial attribute, rapture! This antagonist race is all about action and destructive power over almost anything else....
Scyon: Not to be outdone by the shadow-realm, this race merged with humans who were touched by spirits and absorbed into the Spirit Realm. This destructive, but race of thinkers prefers to pull pranks on anyone in the world for the sheer pleasure of just seeing the reaction of others. They hail from the Void of the Silver Moon and are capable of traversing the spirit world and as well as the void. Cleansing is their racial skill, which tends to work far too well that sometimes entire areas are turned to dust by it....
The El: Humans who were not touched by shadow or spirits and evolved in the surface world. These El have a slight glow to them depending on where they live they can look more human-like, or more elven-like. Unlike the Ari and Scyon who use Magical Elemental Power to their fullest, The El learned to use Natural Elemental Power to the fullest. They populate the surface world and due to how different they can look, a lot of war and controversy had plagued them... Power is their Racial Attribute...
Nerva: This race of pure energy was discovered and enslaved by the Ari originally, however once discovering their own power and awareness; they quickly isolated themselves from most creation. Due to not having lifespans, age approximations are used based on accumulated energy. Shifting is their racial ability, allowing them to replicate any affinity in the game. In order for a nerva to die, both, their life force and energy must drop to 0. At 0 Life Force, the nerva lose their form and enter their pure energy form.... which is pretty much one of the best anti-death mechanisms ever....
Rym: A race of evolved sentient monsters. These characters usually have parts of different monsters along with their abilities. Due to this, they can live everywhere and nowhere at the same time. In fact they carry on the racial attribute and monster attribute of the primary race they are born into and also share the weaknesses that they have. They also have strong telepathic and slight foresight skills which keep them one step ahead of the other races. Their Internal Wars deal with those who are aligned to the Dragon Clans, and those who are aligned to the Beast Clans.
Fae: A race of people who live in their faydships. These ships are extremely large and so powerful that they are civilization-level ships. After humans arrived into a dying star system, they revitalized the star and attempted to settle on an extremely harsh world. In order to revitalize the world they built prime-novus and sent a beacon to attract the others. However, time caused the humans to evolve into three different races and when prime-novus was destroyed, the humans believed that the signal beacon to summon the others had been lost. During the El/Ari war, the Fae established contact with the surface world. Four of the Faydships became accounted for... The Ship of Administrators who guides and leads all overs, Concordia; The Ship of War, which cuts a path for others to follow, Amethyst; The ship of stealth and deception, which guarantees a trump card in the face of certain death, Vulture; and finally, The ship that is considered large even by Faydship standards.... One so large that the others can dock to, The ship of builders and lost knowledge, Thor. Thirteen Faydships are said to be in existence not counting the Dark. Character Racial Specials depend on which mark (or ship) they were born into... as each counts as their own civilization... Faydships work in Clusters of four as their alliances hold. One such ship is said to work alone...lost among the void, the legend of the lost thirteenth ship and the rise of the Dark.
For those who care about Strength and Weaknesses
El: Highest Synergy with Machine and Natural Elemental Power over more balanced attributes, however dependent on progressing their racial skill in order to survive. Prone to Contamination from Magical Elemental Power. Best Multi-Class user....
Ari: The highest Area of Attack Magical Elemental Power Damage in the game... In fact no race will ever outdo their high area damage under variance and affinity. Their racial attribute can claim their life, and the life of others if they are not careful. This race is all about offense and holds little defense....and is dependent on Elemental Power even through their weapons and fighting styles..
Scyon: As far as Range goes, nothing can beat Scyon's range manipulation tied to their cleansing. Not only can they strengthen their Magical Elemental Power, they also extend their range and attack speed. Its very common for Scyon to Snipe their enemies with Elemental Power instead of conventional weapons and far more accurate. They do have melee abilities and can fight short range, but not as well as other races who are more defensive.
Rym: Their unpredictability is by far their best thing. Even unpredictable they can still communicate telepathically as a free action. Anywhere they are, even appearing alone...they can contact others to serve them. They have strength in numbers and unpredictability in their own abilities, strong synergy....but weaker individual skills and open weaknesses makes them overdepend on armors and equipment from other races to survive.
Nerva: The strongest single-target, melee damage in the game. In fact, I had to actually tone these guys down twice...because of their special causing constant critical hits at counter-affinity. Their attacks only grow stronger and even near-death, they are truly killers. Rather than use energy teleport to escape battle, they like to get inside energy-sensitive targets and destroy them from the inside-out. Their movement speed is also amazing, However when they lose energy, the lose stages of energy....and their stage defines their power and ability. So in essence, they fight against enemies with the same energy they are made up off.
Fae: As far as machine technology is concerned and being able to fight in any environment with always a tool for the job, the Fae are there. Fae characters can utilize any tool or device, regardless the language and through their marks are able to defend decently...in fact their best asset is their adaptability and advanced technologies, but their weakness is the fact that they are not well adjusted to Natural Elemental Power or Magical Elemental Power, meaning a lot of attacks are energy based or replications. However, they also have their Faydships...and when there is a will, there is a way........as the hull of their ships are immune to most Elemental Power (including Elemental Power that assists them). like the Rym... Fae do not fight alone....and unlike the Rym, they can fight anywhere and in the stars.... and learn quickly about any threat they face.
