Gamecube Controller compatability

I've been playing PSO2 since launch and I have been playing using an XBox 360 controller. However I want to try to play the game using a Gamecube controller, but thanks to many factors with the drivers related to the controller, namely the fact the c-stick has no dead-zone and the game counts up and down on the c-stick as separate buttons, I have come close to just giving up doing this. Has anyone else attempted to do this and if so, have you gotten any success?

You may want to consider looking for xinput emulators that don't hook since gameguard will block it anyway. Truth be told, I don't really know of any....
