Why would any company run a game that wouldn't produce any income?

Why would any company run a game that wouldn't produce any income(or very small amount)?

Are some companys really running games only to do you favour, so we can play their game?

Example: FFXIV some people say it's dying cuz we they have 200k subs, others say it's a lie.
There are some who say they don't get in enought money from monthly sub to maintain the servers.

Without cash shop the game would be vastly underfunded. It already is anyway.. because of FFXV, KHIII, and FFVII's Remake.

Do we really live in an era where customer/user satisfaction>money?

Does that mean that when those games are released, there will be a spike in content in FFXIV? Are they diverting cash that could be going into FFXIV, and using it for those games? Once people start buying them, will there be new and interesting things happening in FFXIV?
