My memories to Phantasy Star were always in the fourth game. I loved how it came together and how it ended. The characters were fantastic and I loved how some of those characteristics returned in PSO-1. I remember Casts had high accuracy at low levels and trap detection but oh boy... don't get shocked; HUnewearls could block almost every other attack done right and pretty much combo-in their techs. Humans had their way too, and one didn't need skill points to have fun. I remember all of those days lost looking for perma-stat increasing items, but i remember all the times Falz's Grants Attack would kill off three of us. Even more was when one of our souls were stolen and everyone just kept on going and fired! (yeah, killed me even under invincibility). I remember my max grinded Dark Mech-Guns that I loved using so much, though the best was Finishing off the main boss of the game through all four players photon blasting together at the same time! We all loved Twins..... ^_^
PSO-1 had more balanced gameplay, far less fashion.
PSO-2 has much more fashion and far less balanced gameplay...
I loved how a person in PSO-1 could be a HUnewearl forever and be satisfied for it. I am always going between Fighter/Hunter and Fighter/Techer, and that is my point. The same was true to the first Guild Wars... I could be an Elementalist Forever and be happy. Same was true with Guild Wars 2 until nerfs came everywhere...
Almost every game I play, I am not as connected to my main class as much as older games.
I never complained about HUnewearls
I never had to...
I knew what I was getting myself into, and I could just have fun...
though as far as my memories go...
I've always felt that usually its the music in Phantasy Star that tells the story..
Not the fashion, or the players.
I could listen to a lot of the music 15 years later and feel how different things are while the fashion is a blur...
though if I really had something to complain about deeply...
It would be everything SEGA did to transition from P2P subscriptions to F2P subscription models and the way that affected the internals of their game.
