Gene consumes way more Photons than the average ARKS; probably because she's a Weaponoid of half a Genesis Weapon, hence her name. She has a tendency to become weak or pass out if she overexerts herself, which is exactly what happened at the end of Chapter 2. The Medical Team made adjustments to her outfit to increase Photon exposure, which helps mitigate the effects of her own power.
Yes, they seriously wrote an in-universe explanation as to why they cut up her outfit. Don't ask.
