Isn't the 2 a.m. JST maintenance start time normal for big updates?

This isn't extended in the sense of 'we screwed something up and need to fix it,' it's 'this is a big update and we need time to apply it properly.'

Yep, this is an Extended Maintenance in the sense of "this is a maintenance that is longer than the average" which is different than a maintenance that has been extended past its scheduled completion time (which honestly might also happen).

SEGA's always done this for big updates and server maintenance, so I just didn't see what was amusing about it.

They didn't use to in the early days, but WAY more often than not they had extended maintenance due to last minute bugs or server issues.

Not a problem. I have Mk8 D and Disgaea 5 so extended Maint. Isn't a problem. Hopefully no big hiccups occur when servers go Live Wednesday.
