Playing offline for the first time and have a few questions:
1. I'm starting out on the first PSU (non-expansion) - can I use ethan in the expansion or does it have to go through a character in extra mode to move to the expansion.
2. If extra mode, do I have to do the entire story or just unlock it ?
3. Is there a list of where things drop offline or is it the same as online?
4. Is there an ideal time to move my character to the expansion?- I heard some items are more rare than the expansion than in the original.

1. Extra mode
2. just unlock it after a couple chapters, forget which.
3. original PSU doesn't have a lot of worthwhile drops, most good items are from the NPC or from S-ranking.
4. Get whittil wings before porting it over, it's harder to get in AoI.

2. you get extra mode after chapter 4 but as you progress in story mode more missions at the flyer base and items at stores become available in extra mode so i would suggest beating story mode to get the full experiance

Is there an offline guide anywhere where things drop such as whittil wing or is it random?

Whittil Wing and Dagger of Serafi drop in HIVE, the last area you unlock.

Another quick question- to synth different weapons(Striking, range,etc) can you do it on one machine equally or need to reset it for different ones like online?
