I've always viewed thread subscription as a clunky tool compared to being able to just hit a button at the top of the page to view all the threads I've recently been active in. Any chance this could be implemented?

Until it's feasible & possible, a quicker way is using "Find all posts by <user>" from user profile "Statistic" tab or clicking on user name from any thread. This is faster than from user CP's "List subscriptions".
 Blink & you'd miss it! ;3

That's kind of what I've been doing lately after giving up on the subscription feature. Hopefully convenience will be one click away soon enough.
