Default FF1 & 2 question. - 07-18-2012, 08:55 PM

I know there is a GBA (GBSP) and a PSP version of this game. I was wondering which version I should get? I've been hunting down under the radar Squaresoft (SquareEnix) games when I'm off work. Any Advice would help.

There's technically 2 versions on PSP.

FF Origins on PSN, is just a port of the remake from the PS1.

GBA version has some bonus dungeons for each game, nerfed difficulty.

PSP 20th anniversary versions have all the content of the GBA ones and more, nicer sprites, and the FMVs added in the PS1 release are included. The PSP versions are sold separately though. Not sure where the difficulty falls, it's pretty easy though...

I enjoyed the Dawn of Souls remake on GBA. A big part of that was the breezy difficulty. If you just want to go through the games to get an idea of what happens, it's nice to just be able to play around with the systems and take the tourist route.

Granted, I'm not generally a huge fan of grindy retro RPGs, so your mileage may vary.

I would imagine that the PSP 20th anniversary would have more content. But if you can't choose, flip a coin or show that sad little gameboy some love.

I might prefer the PSP version for graphics/music ehancement/content. I don't mind some challenge if the difficulty is too hard. But I wonder if finding a copy for the GBA (or GBSP) would be harder unless downloading it on psn is a better choice.

Thanks for the replies.

Mind you there is also an IOS version, which i highly recommend if you always have your ipod on you.

Its based off of the psp version but doesnt have the cutscenes.
There is also one of FF2.

But on a side note:
If your interested in FF3 and have an Ipod I suggest you pick it up on IOS.
Its basically a port of the ds version (cutscenes and all) but it went through a visual upgrade.

Ios:
Final Fantasy 1
Final Fantasy 2
Final Fantasy 3
FF1
Spoiler!

FF2
Spoiler!

FF3
Spoiler!

I play the iPad version of those games.

Touch screen is really nice. Also the games are cheaper. It was 7.99 for FF1 and sometimes in sales I've seen it for $5. I've seen ff3 at the AppStore for 15 - 17. iCloud saves and backups all your save data and the interface is nicer for touch. Other game I play is secret of mana.

Only problem with ff1 is that they added five new areas to the game but there is nothing in those areas that are worth anything other than fighting none epic fail bosses. I kid you not, I went through ff-1 on the iPad with the only time I ever had a character killed in battle was at the final boss.

I was so disappointed with how the game's difficulty was dumbed down from the original. However the newgame+ is ok. Even warmech and Tiamat are extremely dumbed down.

I forgot to add which handheld system should I get if I want to pay FF4 and FF5 as well. I have a remake of FF3 for GBA. I haven't finished it.

Thanks for the answers. I'll have to look into it.

Wait, do you have a DS remake of FF3 or a GBA remake of FF6? There isn't a GBA remake of the Japanese FF3.

My understanding is that the PSP version of FF4 is the most complete edition since it features all the content from the GBA edition (including the better translation) plus all the superfluous After Years sequel content. However, the DS version is updated graphics, a new script, voiced cutscenes, and is apparently made to be a bit of a remix of the game for those who have already played through the original. You'll probably be fine going with either one.

FF5 has fewer versions out there in the States. The PSN version is supposed to have terrible load times, so you probably just want to get the GBA port. That version seemed fine to me though I never got around to finishing it.
