US copy of PSO working on Japanese DC

Hi all!

My friend recently got his legit copy of PSO (US version). He is using a non-mod-chipped Japanese DC and has trouble getting the game to load. Normally for US games, he uses a bootdisk. But with PSO, he is getting a blank screen. He thinks it might be a defective copy of PSO, but I think the chance of that is low.

Does anybody have a similar setup? (US PSO + Japanese DC?) Is there any special trick you have to do to get the game to load? Is there a URL or FAQ he can look it for help?

Any help or suggestion will be very much appreciated.

its a security thing the jap version runs off a diffrent system.

I see. So there is no way to get around that, huh? Getting the import is the only solution?

The problem is the boot disk he's using. He's prolly using the Utopia Boot Loader, and it doesn't work for ALL import games. My advice? Either buy the DCX import player, found at your local eb/software etc, or get a gameshark and use it to boot it. Both a real and a pirated gameshark will run on any region dreamcast, and boot imports just fine.
