As Bleach filler ends with episode 109, I am still left wondering why on earth that why producers feel the need to make fillers instead of simply putting the series on hiatus?

Any suggestions?

it sounds like a good idea, I mean, some shows here in America have shows put in hiatus until they can come up with new episodes, and I see now reason why they can't do it with anime in Japan. anyway, I am totally glad that the Bleach fillers are ending today, now for those Naruto fillers to end. What dissappoints me though is that Rurouni Kenshin had to be cancelled because the popularity fell due to the fillers, and they couldn't do the Jinchuu arc.

That might be why they announced that the naruto fillers would be ending soon, february i think they said. I think it's become rather unpopuar in japan. I don't know.I don't know how these things work out there...

Because thousands of people would rather watch fillers than nothing.
And if you're in that minority that would prefer nothing, then don't watch it.

From the Japanese anime publisher's point of view, it's to keep the series in the public view. If they drop out of the current line-up of shows, they'll quickly be replaced by another show and forgotten about, no matter how cool the show may be. This is something that has happened to numerous previous anime, and the reason fillers started happening. It makes most companies more money in the long run, and gets the fans what they want in the long run as well, since, eventually, they get to see the entire manga in anime format. Ranma 1/2 would be a prime example of an "unfinished" anime series that could have benefitted from fillers.

True, but since filler are almost always worse than that actual story arc the anime can go downhill fast because of the fillers also, espically here in the west with our non-existant patientice. In retorspect I guess filler are useful in not over done and if the media has the option of skipping them altogether (assuming that the original story is being produced so fillers aren't neccessary).

Well, fillers could be alright as long as some effort is put into them. I personally have enjoyed the Bleach fillers. good stuffs.

Definitely. They went downhill fairly quickly at the start, after all that game stuff which was great. It was more the episodes which revolved around Ririn, Cloud and Nova which were terrible. I really enjoyed all the ones from about 88 onwards. Kariya vs Ichigo fight was totally awesome!
