Been lurkin a bit from time to time, but I'm kinda new to the game and I'm already noticing some interesting effects from using different Lines, especially in the tank classes.
I've looked around the web a bit, including here and I just don't see alot of interesting discussion or resources on armor use, strategies, cross-company combinations, and how it all affects your personal tanking and weapon choices.
Anything out there that'll help me get a plan for slaying with style?

Seems to me that most folks focus on an armor's element and available slots over anything else.

Yeah, and it some games its a no-brainer, armor has little effect on your play style. In others though, how you slot your armor can give an extra subtlety and alleviate some boredom from melee, or any other class really. So, where does PSU fall on that kind of scale?

I've found that if you use a shield that is class only, like midiline or phantom line for ranger types, then there hoza-senba & Hiragi-senba for force types, plus a high % , say , 38% or higher , plus a mega rainbow if possible, that's when you really get some great defense. I'm sure there are some beast only shields out there, but I'm not too sure on them, & I know there are rarer ranger & force ones, but I've never gotton to test them out , .... however Yamata-senba says it works well with cwertain twin claws, I'm not sure what effect this gives ...... Keep in mind though , you'll eventually want to carry a high % for just about every type element area you hunt in, higher for your most run missions if possible.

The difference in damage I take from using my 3* 50% elec Stellaline over a 7* Dark Phantomline is staggering. I can tank shots from Grinna Betes and Volfus go from 500 a hit to under 200.
The combinations for weapons are pretty much not useful with a few scant exceptions. I tried the Jitseen/Zeetline combo and was unimpressed.

All armors are different really...
GRM armors have more balanced stats.
Yohmei armors have highest DFP.
TENORA armors have highest EVP.
Some armors have a set attribute, as in, the Sori-senba[8* Yohmei armor] can ONLY have Ice attribute, while the Yamata-senba[9* Yohmei armor] can have any attribute you chose.
Most people use the Sori-senba because it's not that far off from the Yamata-senba in stats, 15 DFP/15 EVP/1 MST to be persise. Also, Sori-senba DFP requirements are 66 DFP, and has all 4 slot spaces open.
The only downfall to your armors are the Attribute.
For example, take the Sori-senba, store bought it has 11% Ice, fairly low, but it still is a horrible set back against Fire monsters, like Vanda.
Your DFP/EVP/MST will drop depending on the % of your armor against the opposite type-monster.
I don't know for sure how it works but I think the Drain is based only on your equiped stats.
Say you have 333 DFP with Sori-Senba, at 11% ice, and a Vanda attacks you. Vanda is a Fire monster, so your DFP is reduced by 11%, so you have only 300 DFP when you get hit.
Now, say a Jishagara attacks you with the same armor on. Jishagara is Ice attribute, so you get a DFP/EVP/MST boost to him. you'd have 366 DFP to him.
[I'm not 100% sure on my %ed stat calculations being correct...]
Slots are a biggie too, exspecially for CAST, sence they use SUV-Weapons.
Slots do add alot for your stats and such, some times.
Hope my Info helped you, have a nice day.

I swear that ST put the Sori-senba into the game to help us spot noobs more easily Most people going after it fail to realize the value of higher EVP armors and are only obsessed with 4 slots (which has been covered many times that you don't need 4 slots).
Also, the elemental percentage doesn't work anything like the way you mentioned. For starters, it has no influence on your dodge rate with EVP. It also increases or decreases the damage after DFP/MST has been taken into affect, it does not influence their effectiveness. Also, enemies have a 5% attribute to them, so with a store bought Sori-senba you'd only be getting 6% reduction from ice but 17% more damage from fire.
