I've been told that it was rumored that melee kubara weaps have a damage handicap for photon arts. i.e, with a kubara weapon, you'll be doing less damage using a photon art. This makes a whole lot of sense because one time I tested a 20% fire Al Sevac(4) with 262 atp (6* tenora twinsaber replica) and compared it to an 18% fire ryo-slasha(2) with 188 atp (6* normal yohmei twinsaber)...the ryo did roughly 20 more damage per combo hit, using level 30 splendor crush against level 50 olgohmons in mizuraki defense S.
*sidenote: I did this test quite some time ago, so I dont remember the numbers exactly, but there was definitely a difference of 20 damage each hit between the two twin sabers.
So here we have a slightly better percent weapon with a much higher ATP stat doing less damage than its weaker counterpart with a slightly lower element percent. So I said, what gives? Someone started a thread on these boards in PSU general and someone else mentioned that kubara weapons actually have a damage reduction factor when using a photon art.
So I ask now: is this true? and further, does this apply to tech weapons and guns?has anybody else tested this?

I'm pretty sure there is not a reduction from using the 8* kubara Beam Vulcanic machinegun. I'll test it some later today just to make sure. But machineguns might not be a good weapon to test since its atp is so low.

actually theyll be perfect. while the damage is low, its extremely easy to notice a difference. the per hit damage sucks on machineguns, but that adds up trememndously. an additional 2 damage per shot adds up to an additional 15-20 dps,and so forth, rather quickly. machineguns = <3
anywho, yeah, give it a shot later, and I'll do the same since Im going to be running out for a little while soon myself.Ill see what else I can test, though I have to kill an old lady these days to make the fuckin doublesabics work >.<!!! I'm 0 for 4 right now with a 41% synth rate.do not buy these fuckers expecting a reasonable synth rate.

I tested the 2* GRM Magga Aza +0 15 atp versus the 8* Kubara Beam Vulcanic +10 70 atp. The Kubara Beam Vulcanic was doing roughly 20 more damage per hit. 294 versus 274 for the 2* GRM machinegun. So there is no damage reduction for machinegun pas at least when using Kubara versions.

This looks to be true. I just tested with a Dual Durandal vs Twin Sabic (Dual Durandal having 22 more hp, which translates into ~5 more damage per hit).
Normal attacks were roughly the same. With the variable damage it was hard to tell the difference. As expected.
Now with Rising Crush, The Dual Durandal did 240-250s, while the Twin Sabic hit in the 210-220s on the same enemy. I also have a Twin Sabic grinded to +6, this has 268 ATP, a bit more than the Dual Durandal.... but it still hit for less (220-230ish).
My conclusion is that kubara melee weapons do indeed have a damage penalty for photon arts.

So just say no to kubara melee versions of non-kubara melee weapons. It does make me curious if kubara-only melee weapons have the same pa damage penalty. Anyone have some twin kitty claws and some Yohemi twin claws with similar stats and % to test or something else like Del Jangus?

Well there is a reason to use Kubara S rank weapons - they can be any element.
Edit:
Just tested the Harisen Battle Fan +5 (271 ATP) vs a Seva Sata (288 ATP).
Rising Strike on the Seva Sata hit 30-40 points harder than on the Battle Fan. This one at least has the Kubara penalty.

I do about 60-100 more damage with the last combo of spiral dance with my 14% ice sweet death then with my 16% ice crea doubles.
