I just beat the Story Mode, so I bought an online subscription. But when I select Network Mode it goes to load the game, and then the whole screen just goes black. Then I have to manually shut it down... WTF?

Either you need to wait longer for the game to load (it does NOT load instantly, depending on how clogged your machine is, mine takes anywhere from 1-5 minutes after I boot up my PC before it goes from the black screen to the game), or try installing Direct X from the CD, people used to have that problem, though I don't see why it would matter if you've played offline mode.

Direct X shouldn't be his problem since he was already capable of playing offline with the game.

You should wait for the screen to load itself and time it's loading pace. It's probably due to high specs that you've set the game to where it can't really handle all of the processing.

Oh doh', I didn't see you've already mentioned it in your post as regards to already being capable of playing it >.>;;

At OP: Anyways yah, just tone down your settings and see if that will help. Play in different resolutions, etc.

Also, see how long it continues the black screen.

If all else fails...
If you are capable of playing offline fine, get pass GG fine, then my only thoughts are that a file must have corrupted, so probably... a fresh reinstallation will be required but do that when you have no other options since saved data will be deleted.

I lowered it too normal res(800x640) normal graphics, and 32 bit color. Still waitin on it to load(I have several computers)

oh damn. I didn't even think about that, my saves are gonna be gone... LVL 65 Ethan Waber down the drain.... It'll be worth it to get online though. I think I'm gonna have to reinstall because it's been 7 minutes and it still won't load. This blows...

Well, since you got several computers, why not install them onto the others if they are capable of running the game?

Also, try playing in Windows mode vs Full screen mode?

Actually wait... Does GameGuard initiates when you start PSU online? (the little downloader for patch progressing and etc.)

Also try running the game in administrator mode.

(Right click the icon, run as administrator.)

Maybe your firewall/virus protector?
