There's been alot of talk about the xbox version and whether it will be better and what not. I'm kinda mad cuz' sega hasn't released much about it, and I want to know if the GCN people will be able to play with the Xbox people(although I doubt it because xbox is on the beast game network). But I'm still thinking about getting it because sega should be able to update the game for things like FSOD's and you can save the update to your hdd. What do you guys think?

beast servers? thats the name? hm...

well...
so far its rumored the game's mastercopy is already in ... microsoft hq. but they want to wait until it starts in japan. and this will wait until x-box-live leaves the beta-phase in japan...

this would mean:
the game's ready programmed: no updates, no improvements (knowing sega and their porting-policy) - its just the same as the cube-version only running on x-box.
i wouldn't bet sega would do anything on top of that what they to for the cube-version - questlike i mean. as far as patches and server-maintenance go, thats microsofts part - so every fsod will be their fault, not sega's (but since ms has gotten a pretty good name for servermainenance, we'll see).

personally i'm really curious what microsoft's making out of the potential pso has - and no, server wont be connected.
maybe between the rumoured ps2-version and the cube-version but thats a totally different story...

edit:
well, yes 'just the same as the cube version' plus that loved/hated voice-chat-feature.

you know it may be that ms is just taking time to make it bulletproof. if they do indeed have the master disc, they may have had time to find errors and program holes that can be exploited. if its running on ms servers then they will be sure to make it as cheat proof as possible. if its a port of the japanese version 1 disc then it surely has flaws to be fixed. lets just hope the extra time spent was play testing with the most ruthless cheaters and uptight perfectionists.

as far as playing with gcn players, i think not.

I'm pretty sure they won't be connected. the Box and the Cube verions run on different companies' servers, Sonic Team for Cube and Microsoft for Box.

Where the hell did you guys ever get this silly idea that Microsoft makes secure products. I mean... seriously.

Ignorance.

If the X-Box and GC servers were connected (which they won't be), then any attempts to make the X-Box version free of bugs would be all for naught, since any bug affecting the GC version (such as duping) would also affect the X-Box users and vice-versa.

Probably because, while Microsoft's software is less-than-perfect, their game servers are top-notch, and cheaters are instantly banned on Microsoft's servers.

One thing I hope for is client side patches to truly stop cheating...

Y'know, all the talk about server-side or client-side patches to prevent cheats...

I dunno. Maybe I'm just spouting here, which is entirely possible. But it seems to me that some of that would need to be done by Sonic Team anyway. Y'know...'cause Microsoft doesn't exactly have the raw source code to the game, do they? I'd assume ST wants to keep that pretty much to themselves...so anything Microsoft would try to do would be...

...really, I'm just babbling.
