I know this is quite lame to ask...

Considering that the PSU pc mini. requirements is 1.6Ghz, will it work on a 1.4Ghz?? I do realize that the recommended requirements is 2.6Ghz, but.. It would be nice if I can PSU whenever I want.

No. Minimum requirements are just that, the minimum. If your computer dips below those requirements, it won't work.

It's like trying to play a N64 game, in a super nintendo. It just won't work. Upgrade your computer, PSU will thank you for it.

No necessarily Zantra, sometimes it will install and let you play but gameplay will usually be more sluggish. Some games however will do a pre-install check to see if you meet the minimums and if not will give you a popup telling you that and will refuse to install. Also it depends on whether the processor is a single or multiple core processor and whether the game in question can use more than one core at a time. I have some older Dell laptops sitting around that I can check out to see if they are below the minimum requirement to see if it will even install. Lastly, you didn't mention the rest of your specs which would also help us determine if the game would run/run decently on your machine.

Oh my, sounds like either a K-6 or one of those first generation Pentium 4 Willamettes. My uncle has two of those ancient Willamettes and somehow manages to run Doom 3 on the one (admittedly he did put in an X700 Pro, but it is bottlenecked horribly by the 512MB of memory so I can't imagine the settings are very good). Why he has two of those things I don't know... He's also stubbornly refusing to get rid of Windows 98 even though all of his programs (aside from an ancient accounting program that would be illegal to use for accounting today) work fine in XP. It's an absolute headache trying to get 98 and XP to play nicely.

My apologies for being vague.. The rest of my specs:

Intel Celeron 1.46Ghz
WinXP
512MB RAM
ATI Radeon Xpress 200M

So... Will it work? I really want to play PSU, but I don't want to end up with increasing sluggish performances.

I can tell you that I did some tests when PSU was first released with a machine that had a 1.6GHz AMD Turion cpu (which is better than the Celeron) and I also had 512MB of RAM and the Xpress 200M and it ran poorly. It wasn't what I personally would consider "playable" but that is a matter of opinion. I had to crank the resolution down and turn off all eye candy as well as set frameskip (I think that's what it was called) to 2 or 3. I guess it was playable, but it definitely wasn't anything fancy to look at. My memory is SOOOOOOO horrbile I don't remember what framerates I got, but maybe this weekend I can load it up again on that older laptop and see how it does. The real issue is whether or not PSU will stop you from even installing it because of your processor speed. Maybe someone who has tried it can give us a definite answer.

well I'm running on the shittiest computer, laptop actually, ever. I can assure you'll be just fine. Here are my specs:
intell pentium 3
Mobile CPU 1000 MHz
996 MHz, 512 MB Ram
video card is mobility radeon.

If you need to just go to custom settings and turn framerate to 3 and lower everything, but I doubt you'd need to.

Call me a safe bet. I'm betting I'm not.

Good to know, thanks EphekZ for confirming that it will install even on systems that may be lower than the listed minimums. What do you have the resolution set to?

For a visual comparison I used a 4:3 ratio LCD to make things easy. I haven't loaded it on my laptop yet so I can't post any framerates atm, but it does give you an idea of what to expect visually. I forgot to lower the settings on the higher resolution images but it's not a major difference except for the glowing weapon.

640x480 Windowed - Low settings

640x480 Fullscreen - Low settings

1280x1024 - High settings

Even at 640x480 it's decent enough to be playable as long as you can get ok framerates without too much slowdown. The more I thought about it, the more I thought I recalled that the game may have been decently playable on my test laptop. Keep in mind though that I didn't get that far into the game at all, so other areas may be a lot worse framerate-wise. I'll post some framerates tomorrow using my laptop with the following specs:

1.6GHz Turion Processor
512MB DDR (I'll have to look at the speed, I don't remember off hand.)
Xpress 200M chipset

Since the expansion is coming out soon, we will probably be getting more tech questions about how it performs with x, y and z system setups.
