Well :> I got PSU:AotI but I've not really started playing it yet, because I want to finish the single player for Vanilla. Now my question is, should I bother starting a character in extra mode in vanilla?

Or should I just delete PSU vanilla and start enjoying AotI (along with the online mode) once I beat it? This being since it gives you the option of importing a character from Vanilla or starting a new character :>

wait you mean story mode or extra mode?

if you already finished the vanilla PSU cinematic offline story, then might as well jump to AOI.

extra mode is a cheap half-assed version of the true experience.

Well.. AoI's story mode is like a qausi-mixture of Network Mode and Extra Mode.. That is, you have the Network Mode room, you go to Mina at HQ to do any of the story missions, etc.. But everything else is like normal Extra Mode, aside from a few (very few) stray NPC's scattered around that you can talk to like in the original Story Mode.

So uh, yea. Like Desecration said, if you haven't started up on Extra Mode yet, just wait for AoI.
