I found just found out that you still cannot edit an OP of a topic to add a poll, and methinks that editing the OP of a poll topic still (after the forum update) winds up nukeing your poll altogether.

is there a reason this inconvience exists? (like the possibility altering poll options mid-poll to mess with the results)

No need to kill the poll, if you want to edit a poll, PM a mod your changes. The mod can edit & update whatever needed.
