Default How to play a class? - 07-08-2008, 07:04 PM

I've seen this before on the forums and I am curious as to finally see what people mean when they say the following:

To "Play a class" properly.

I mean to an extent, that is true. But at the same time, people pick a class to play as they like, right? When I first joined these forums and I heard that term, it made total sense. But now as I look at the forums, it seems like more people demand that in a party more than anything.

But just how do you play a class? I mean, you could even argue that the word "class" is not proper. It's your Guardian type, not necessary a class. Anyway... how do you play your class?

For example, I am a WT, so I think that in order to play a WT "correct" you would have to utilize your ranged, melee and technic skills and support your party whenever its applicable. Basically a "do it all" type.

So how would you define how to play a class; if someone asked you "Hello, how do you play a XY?"

And feel free to define how to play every class. I want to know. If I am playing a class wrong and pissing off people, let me know, so I can play that class right. (I have a WT. GT. AT and future FM.)

well theres really 2 ways to play race/class:
The Stereotype way, and then your own way

EX: Stereotype Fortetecher
Has to be a Newman, and has to heal and Buff whenever its needed,
attack in between healing/buffing

your own way: Fortetecher
Some may choose to use a Human, or maybe even Cast(dont think iv ever seen a B. FT)
u could use almost all wands instead of all Rods. Some may even choose to not buff at all

this game is all about personal choice and even if u decide to pick some weird race/class combo its not gonna hurt anyone.. and plus this game is easy so it really dont make a difference

i mean u can be any thing you want and still be really good at it!

I believe it, but some people have it as a pet peeve, when people play a class "wrong." So I am curious to see the right way. But you did tell me how a "FT" is supposed to be, so thank you for that. Don't get me wrong, I totally agree, but i want to see how people play a class wrong. I mean I picked the WT class for its weapon selection over anything else.

Playing a class properly means playing the class to suit your playstyle.

How I play my techer by first casting buffs and gi resta then going on the attack while healing every once in a while. I play gunner by trying to cast as many SE's on as many enemies as possible. I play fighte by dealing damage, I don't use big knockback skills unless I am being gangbanged or face annoying enemies like go vahras.

For me that is what I consider playing a class properly. IN the end its a choice of personal style. You play how it suits you. Unfortunately most people think their way is superior. I may dissagree with the way you play your class, but I say you have the right to play your way.

This is how I play Fortefighter:

1) Make sure my pallette and armor is appropriate for the mission being run.
2) I Play a front-lines game; take hits for classes with less HP and Def, such as the Techers and some hybrids.
3) I make good use of healing items, as well as tact while in the fray; It's unrealistic to think that all techers will be able to heal you all the time. Also it's kind of lame/funny if you die repeatedly. Also I have Sols in my pallet for other players.
4) Deal the most damage I can. As a Fortefighter, it's expected, and I don't think it's a completely unrealistic expectation. However, as a human female, those in my party can't expect me to match a beast male. As long as that's understood, hey, great!

I think that's about it....That sound like "playing your class right?"

Fix'd.

You wud not believe how many ppl get pissed off when a techer doenst play "right".

I was in a party with my friend who's an FT, and this random person (known TFF or something) joins up. We all hit the next block at the same time, and started to move foward, when TFF said to my friend, "Um, buffs? lmao". My friend told TFF that she's not a buffer type. All of a sudden, that TTF girl starts going off on her about how she's a noob and that she fails at being a FT; Basically badmouthing her and complaining to no end.

We just booted that girl during her rant, but wow, goes to show how ppl take this too seriously, eh?
