It's very sad that you think that way. I can't begin to tell you how many hours I spent drawing all the shapes for my entry (I can tell you I was sleep deprived for the last three days of the contest because of it!), and I don't care that I didn't make it to the top 10. Winning isn't everything - I know it's cheesy but it's true!

XD I am just happy to have found the motivation to finish a vector outside of my job for the first time in months. That and the fun of doing something related to my favorite game makes it worth it anyway.

You got to take part in a fun event that's not an every day occurrence. Be glad for the opportunity! =)

I will not say what wrong is there, but I rather say where you can improve.

@ Tsukuyo, your color skill about "shading" still can improve more, you can go look at NO.1 to No. 7 entries. all of them have perfect shading. Your drawing skill is already good, I like your pose and your character. Their coloring style is exactly the same level as the PSOep3 official Rod card that you used as example when you drawing. Just improve on the way you color, and you will do really good, because you have drawing potential already.

@ Tyreek, each story character proportion of the face shape isn't correct, I suggest you to give them more shape/angel on the face unless you are drawing SD or chibi.
and also, the color shading still way to go.

@Aki03, you get decent score from me, so I have nothing to say more than what I just Pmed you about that I can arrange you to talk with the judge who has something to criticize on it if you agree about not take it personally to him.


practice more, you will improve a lot before next contest.

Ah. The same response as my teacher. Good to know. Thanks. As for coloring, well, its my first time actually doing major color in Photoshop. I was planning to do at least 3-4 tones with the piece and add a brighter light source. but the time was against me. Oh well, thank you for the heads up. I still have a ways to go.

I think that the problem is that you put only 1 color on 1 character skin, instead of put thing a little different color to shade in.
Tracing is 2 edges sword,
You gain mark by the effort of tracing, but you also lose mark because you didn't make it look better than screen shot.
It is photoshop category after all, there is no need to change anything to the screen shot unless it will surely look better than the original.
In the end, pictures that can get into ranking = picture that get decent mark from every judges. no matter what is their preference.

we knew that some good work will have to be cut off, that is why we have the 15 silver coins as bonus.

tracing?? the only thing that was traced and vectored was the character -.- i made all the background myself to fit the character and the image, and even if i did all the shading i bet it would of made 0 differance. my problem isnt that i didnt win, i know my entry wasnt the best and i wasnt going to win but the entries that did win didnt derserve to when there was clearly much better. voxies entry should of won it and should be clear to anyone, you said that it was judged on quality, creativity, overall design, and effort and some of the winning entries show none of these, calling those things winners is an insult to art and creativity and i doubt the judges abilitys when some work that just some characters screenshots cut out and stuck on another screenshot won while others that showed genuine effort and ability was ignored, the judges verdict is nothing but a insult to those who should of won

We will not cut the effort mark for the photoshop category that don't do the trace or drawing art too. (It is photoshop category, not art work category, how can we cut mark ,just because they don't draw ? )
Drawing art to combine with photoshop is fine, but not necessary, the reason that we separate them into 2 category is for people who can't draw.
If anybody can draw, that is the way to gain score, but if anybody can't draw, he won't lose score.
voixxie gain score from implement drawing together with photoshop (this is something to gain, not something to be cut)
while skids gain score from the *surprsied* idea that non of the judges can resist when they first see the picture.
Because each pictures has their own style, some picture make for the outstanding of the idea part. Some picture make for purely cool looking, while the idea is nothing special at all. Some judge favor a lot about idea more than other (for example, RubyEclipse, give highest point to that picture you mentioned)

Compare to the picture voxxie did, this is something that I m not going to argue you, because I honestly thought voxxie was going to win the photoshop category until I combined the score from other judges too. Both of the picture got high score from all of the judges, but we can split up into half/half (judges that give higher score to voixxie,or skids). At the end, voxxie picture just only lose by 0.5 score out of 40 score only.
The cut off is very little, I won't be surprised if any of them will go to the win during the scoring period.
Different people different opinion, you can't blame anybody who favor different things than you.

Well its much harder to explain how I connect PSO and PSU
and take a part of my story in one picture (ok, I could draw more, but for me... time was too close... but that was my fault ^_^' ). Well I must learn so much in colouring my works, especially
my charakter was coloured with over than 25 layers O_O. Add a resulotion of 3000x4000 pixels for each layer... well, my PC will hate me xD (Fortuneately I got no Partner Machinery, I guess it would to make a weapon of my bones O_O).

But it was a nice practise, because it was the first time for me to draw without (out)lines and the result looks not very bad (for my first try) . But maybe, I shall go back to my own colouring-style, I mean the result looks good, but it is not my original style... ; )

@ Aki03, as I said although I don't know the part where you lose score, but I m sure your coloring is good enough, and that will not be your cons.
