Default Possible Glitch > File Corruption - 06-08-2010, 12:40 PM

A strange occurance has happened to me one two nearly identical scenarios, and am quite curious on what the cause may be and if it has happened to another.

As a personal opinion, one of the most cruel of fates to happen to any PSO player (other than breaking the disk) is for their files to somehow become corrupt, and this loose dozens upon dozens of hours on their beloved characters.

This has happened to me, as stated earlier, twice to me...And honsetly, it's been difficult to start again from nothing. Thankfully, after a lenghtly hiatus, I've restarted for the third time and keeping my fingers crossed in hopes that it will not occur for a third time.

My situation that has somehow caused my file to become corrupt is followed: After completling the Mines area on the Ultimate difficulty and defeating Vol Opt V.2, I shortly save and quit thereafter. Upon playing again, I am met with a grim message; My game file has been corrupted, and must be erased in order to play again.

First time this happened to me, I was disappointed, but considered it merely a fluke and thought I may have prematurely turned off the system. It was only when it repeated again that I thought that there may be a glitch of sorts on the disk. The only difference during my second run through Ultimate is that after completing the Mines, I decided to play through the Ruins for a few minutes and enjoy myself. Afterwards, I saved, quit, and was yet again saddened to find out that my file again had become corrupted.

My only theory is that there may be a technical glitch of some sort involving completing the Mines on Ultimate & continuing afterward. I can sucessfuly play through the Mines without completing it, thus no corruption. I even can fight again Vol Opt V.2 (and unsucessfully defeat him) with no corruption. It has only been defeating him and afterwards that this 'hiccup' occurs.

My disk is not in perfect condition; it has a few minor scratches, but it has never hindered my playing experience ever. One suggestion I have for myself is to....Just never complete the Mines on Ultimate difficulty, perhaps simply complete Ep. II on the highest difficulty and merely hope that nothing will cause corruption through that playthrough.

Otherwise, what else do you think may cause this to occur, and has it happened to anyone else?

Corruptions happen to people all the time in GC PSO. It has nothing to do with the areas you're in. Deleting your guild card file can sometimes save your characters, but not always. There are a few other tricks people have tried to reverse corruptions, but no method works all the time, and I don't remember them anyway. Do a little research with the search function, you're bound to find something. It's a pain in the ass, but there's little you can do to prevent it. Use an official nintendo memory card if you can, 3rd party cards tend to corrupt more. For example, my nyko card corrupted 7 times, and my official either once or zero times. I forget now, to be honest.

One option you could choose is to dupe, or make backups of your equipment and store it on a different memory card, so if/when corruption happens, all you need to do is get levels back and clear the areas. And with the gear you backup, including mags, that isn't very difficult. However, some players consider this illegit, and frown upon this. Whether or not you do is personal choice; I'm not starting a debate on that here. And also, we can't tell you how to do any type of hacking, so it's up to you whether you want to pursue that or not. I'm kinda tired, so I may have forgotten something; forgive me if I did. Hopefully this helps.

I feel your pain dude. I had an awesome FOnewm in the Ultimate Ruins, and it was also corrupted. I have restarted though, and havent had any problems.

Good luck with your new character!

I have no idea whose image this is. If you know, then I would love it if you could tell me so I can congratulate him/her on having such an awesome sense of humor.
