from psp2 to infinity just got the game

I'm assuming your save is in US/UE isn't it? You need to convert it first.

Edit: Forgot to mention this is the retail version.

when i did the import it copied the entire save upwards, not just 1 char

It's supposed to do that. Importing from the first was the only time you can choose which character you want to be brought over.
