Oh....well this is depressing. I came here to find help with this exact problem. I too am running Windows 8 CP.

Is everyone having this problem running windows 8, and has ANYONE gotten it to work? I noticed the first few posters seemed to after tinkering with everything. I've reinstalled once, turned off windows defender, allowed it through my firewall, etc.

Any ideas?

Edit: I also tried running it in windows 7 comparability mode...I had high hopes for that, but no cigar. Same with windows xp compatibility.

Yes were all on win8. The biggest issue im seeing is the gameguard file isnt even downloading for us win8 users.

In the pso2 bin folder you're missing the gameguard folder. So I got my friend to send me the gameguard folder and it still doesnt launch at all even once you've manually given it gameguard.

Has anyone been able to identify any other files that are missing? My friend sent me the gameguard, and yeah, didn't help.

Don't suppose anyone knows enough Japanese to email Sega and ask about windows 8 compatibility? (Kind of important for them since Windows 8 comes out this fall)

Everything I can find about this problem is blaming it entirely on gameguard. Apparently it isn't fully compatible with windows 8 and so it's not being recognized and letting the game run. I've had my friend send me the gameguard folder as well as the .des file, but that did not work.

Currently I'm installing Gameguard from the actual company's website, because apparently similr issues were had when Windows 7 came out and some people were able to get around it by doing that...

As for it working on the alpha and closed beta, I can only imagine that gameguard maybe wasn't activated yet or fully put into use because it wasn't needed? (it being a closed beta and all, security risks were lower perhaps...). Just a theory.

I really want this to work...I don't have a means of going back to windows 7

Edit: hahaha...no. Gameguard just crashed my computer. It really doesn't like Win8
Edit 2: DO NOT INSTALL GAMEGUARD. My computer would not get past the start screen of windows. Crash after crash after crash. I had to system restore to before I installed GG. Lesson learned....I did send the company an email though about windows 8 compatibility. Maybe not a bad idea if anyone else wants to...

I would just go back to windows 7 for the time being, except I don't have a windows 7 disk or boot drive so I'm kind of SOL...

Honestly if you have your win 7 key just download a boot of win 7. Its not morally wrong. You own the OS you've got a legit key from when your purchased your pc.

Me on the other hand. Im not going back to 7 just for pso2. Rather stupid and its a problem they'll have to fix sooner or later.

Its just so fustrating I dont wanna reformat and downgrade. Its a issue on Segas part for not testing it on win 8 I mean all the other versions of the game have worked up till now. Now'd they manage to get worse further along

I cant even manage to create a bootable Xp usb on win 8 which sucks as im on a m11x which has no cd drive.
