I'd call that an upgrade personally.

I really don't see why everyone is jumping on the windows 8 bandwagon, this just being another thing to add to the list of problems with it.

Maybe it's a blessing in disguise....maybe we'll get it working just as a working English patch comes out. (Hey, I can dream..)

Seriously though, how responsive has sega been during this whole testing process? Do they seem to squash bugs in a timely manner, or are they not very communicative with the community and seem to just do their own thing whenever they feel like?

All the feedback happens at the end of a testing session so they're responsive but honestly pso2 hasnt shown any real improvements since alpha.

They still havent gotten a decent server, the downloader is shit, the speed of everything is shit. It has so far to come but realistically it wont.

Heh, that's honestly exactly what I expected considering everything I've ever experienced with Sega (and PSO1). I wasn't sure how serious they were about this, but honestly if it has the same addictive qualities as the first but with more polish and social interaction then hell, that's all I want. I don't need another hyper-present company making constant changes to a game.

As for this bug...I'm hoping this is something they'll actually get around to fixing though. I figure either they broke something in the most recent release and therefore if they can find it they can fix it, or, if it's entirely due to gameguard, then it's up to them to just fix their compatibility issues...which...hopefully they'll want to since they're a company that will need Windows 8 compatibility to stay relevant in the next few months.

So, basically, yeah, Windows 8 doesn't work. So here is what I did and my recommendation for anyone who REALLY want's to play PSO2 now and not wait for the eventual compatibility fix when Windows 8 actually gets released (because they will have to fix it) is this:

1. Partition about 40-50 GB off of one of you're hard drives. Use this website in order to help. If you got a blank HD installed, just use that to save time.
2. Install Windows XP (32-bit only), Vista (32 or 64) or 7 (32 or 64) onto this new partition.
3. Download and install the free version of Easy BCD in order to fix your bootloader in order to be able to load Windows 8 again.
4. Install and patch PSO2.
5. Have fun.

Way to much to make your user have to do when you could just fix the issue as it wasnt an issue with any of versions released before this.

Honestly I'd be willing to, but I have no legal means of installing another version of windows without having to buy a licensing key...which I'm not willing to do just to play a game that should be working anyway
Take that back. Found out that I do have a way. Maybe I'll do it in a few days. I have a shit ton of work to get done and I probably shouldn't have this game up and running during that time...

Honestly, that's really the only way you can play this game if you've installed Windows 8. It's up to Sega to fix it, not me.

Running Windows 8 on a Virtual Machine and it all works fine. Only problem I had was around shared folders and Win8 trying to be clever.

Totally Segas fault. It worked in every other version and they just fucked up.

Btw now that the games in final release it works on windows 8 again.

Just proving Sega messed up.

So the only version pso2 didnt work on was open beta. Everyone enjoy and delete your Vmware partitions now!
