The monolithic white structure known only as the dome loomed in front of Del. He stood uncretainly on the boundry of the forest, undecided about whether to follow his call, leaving the forest he loved, or to stay with his fellow rappies, risking the hunts. he made up his mind. he could not bear to see another rappy killed, fresh orange blood pooling on the ground, limbs and antennae hanging limp, the lifeless eyes that cried out to all those that saw them. If he was going to die, to be hunted down and slaughtered, it would not be the forest. he could not bear the thought of the other rappies seeing his death. He lifted his foot to step over the boundry from the rappy world to the human one.
"Don't go."
The simple words, echoing in the trees, broke his heart more finally than any sabre or rifle. He broke into a run, leaving all that he knew well behind.

The Pal rappy stared at Del's dust trail until long after it dispersed into the wind. A single tear dripped from his eye, falling a short distance to the grass below. The black rappy was leaving the forest to fulfill his destiny.
"Then he shall have my help." muttered the Pal rappy to himself, and he too began to run, following the trail of Del, the one and only black rappy...

CHAPTER 4: The end and beginning of a long, long, road

The ground shook, weak enough not to hurt, but strong enough to knock Rico to the floor a third time. Suddenly the lights switched on, so suddenly and brightly even the creatures surrounding her seemed surprised. Rico began to get up, but then a deep, menacing, inhuman voice broke out from above her. It seemed to be speaking in the common language, but the words were barely recognisible, mangled by the alien voice.
"Is ThIs ThE oNe"?
Thousands of screams and cries filled the chamber, echoing off the walls and cieling.
A hand reched down with surprising speed, gripping Rico by the collar and hoisting her into the air with inhuman strength, displaying her to the assembled mass of creatures. Glistening black flesh intertwined with psychadelic bio-luminescent pods seemed to hang from large frames, and tighten on small ones. At the far back stood creatures that towered over the rest, brown-bronze armour shining in the light, huge, distended arms hanging at their sides. The smell was overpowering, like a graveyard had been dug up and deposited in this one room. She dared not to struggle, knowing that if she tried to fight, death would be inevitable. She tried to look back at the creature holding her, only to have a sharp, chitinous blade pushed against her neck.
"DoN't MoVe, If YoU wIsH tO lIvE yOu WiLl CoMpLy."
Left without a choice, Rico allowed her captor to carry her through the watching masses, towards an ominous looking door set into the metallic wall, from which all manner of strange artifacts hung. As the door swung open her captor spoke yet again, though Rico dared not reply;
"FaLz WiLl Be VeRy PlEaSeD... yOu FeEl DeLiCiOuS, fAlZ wIlL fInD yOu IrReSiStAbLe."
And from then on they continued in silence, this strange creature holding her only by the collar of her guard wave, the blade pressed against her neck, the smell of death itself following them as they progressed deeper into the structure, towards an unknown destination.

no offense, but it gets slightly annoying to see only small tidbits of a chapter each time you post, and while I understand if you have time restraints, instead of just going and posting only small bits at a time, think about what you're going to post beforehand.. or write it down beforehand, and then type it up.. that way it goes quicker and you can get more on in one post

other then that the fic's pretty good.... can't wait to see my character... whee

I know what you mean. I'm really sorry about the small bits of chapter. If i start writing each chapter down then posting it as a whole it will be quite a while between chapters but i'll give it a try.

Silence reigned in the cavern, long after the shockwave had passed. Flowen regained consciousness slowly, his entire body afire with pain after being smashed against the wall. He sat up and looked around. The Garanz was barely recognisible, the massive energy projected through it had reduced it to a very large puddle of steaming slag.

Through a haze of pain and smoke flowen saw E102 digging his way out of a pile of rocks. There were several dents in his armour and sparks flew from a fracture in his neck.

"Flowen! Where are you? Are you OK?"

"I'm... just...fine."

"Where are you? This smoke's mucking up my sensors."

"Right in front of you, numbnuts."

"Are you hurt? What's the matter?"

"I've just been hurled against a stone wall by a shockwave powerful enough to collapse our exit from this damn cave. Do you think I'd be OK after that?"

"Not really."

Flowen began to sit up, levering himself out of the rubble.

"E102, you got any Dimate? This hurts!"

"I have six... Oh shit."

"What now??

"I've just scanned the surrounding area. My sensors have an effective range of 25 kilometers, but I'm not picking up anywhere near as many as normal human life signs."

"So? what are you saying?"

"That blast killed almost everyone. I can verify this with a number of different matter scans. There are some still alive, but not many."

Flowen was lost for words. His mouth hung open in shock, wounds forgotten. E102 continued, oblivious to his comerade's obvious emotional pain.

"Thermal, x-ray, seismic, life sign, motion, and beacon scans all show the same conclusion. A blast of projected seismic energy was fired straight upwards from this unknown object, destroying most of our facilities. Only one clear path remains between here and the surface, but until the teleporters come back on line, we're stuck here. The only way is down into the unknown object."

"Ev... Everyone? Everyone's dead?"

"No, there are still some healthy life signs. My estimation is between 5 and 12 survivors."

"Five to twelve? There were thousands of us in that dome!"

"Scan shows that they are all dead. The only survivors are currently in the forest."

"NO! YOUR SENSORS ARE WRONG! THEY MUST BE - they... they have to be..."

"Maybe they are, but I have located Rico."

"Rico? She? she's alive?"

"Yes. Scan shows her to be inside the unknown object. No other life signs detected. It's just her."

"Then what are we waiting for? At least we can help her!"

"I agree. Let's go."

Flowen drew his personal sword, It's glass blade flickering in the dim light of the wrecked cavern.

He stroked it's edge with one finger, testing it to be as sharp as it had always been. The trickle of blood from his forefinger confirmed it was still in working order.

"Let's go help Rico."

E102 drew his secondary weapon, the double edged saber known as the stag cutlery. It's red blade shined in the dark, illuminating the ruined cave.

"You know it may be dangerous. I'm picking up no life signs other than Rico's, but there may be creatures my scanners aren't used to."

"I don't care. If we can't help anyone else we'll help her."

Even E102, and android trained for battle, could see the determined look in Flowen's eyes. He would save Rico, or die trying. Flowen seemed to see through the android's metal body and programmed mind.

"If your scan is right, I have nothing more to live for. Pioneer 2 isn't due for months, and if I'm going to die, I want to die with her."

"In that case, I must come with you. My programming clearly states that I must protect both you and miss Rico."

"What are we waiting for then?"

"What indeed..."

The two hunters progressed into the darkness, the sounds of their footsteps fading into the distance.

I spaced it out as suggested, but since it's saved on the school computer I can't continue this part of the fic over the weekend, so i'll post it now. I'll do all the rest of the chapter in 1 go later.
