So I've had the game since released and played around 200 hours offline. However, I just purchased a Broadband Adapter and will follow up with the hunters license soon. I've never been online and wnat some basic tips to avoid corruption, hacked and duped items etc. I would appreciate any help greatly.

Well, for the duper/hacker part (I hate to advertise but...) you could try PSO-Karma. It's a new legit community that sprang up not too long ago. PM me if you want more info. For the corruption part, all I can really say is just be lucky and try to avoid crowded places *cough vega cough*

If you don't want anything hacked/duped, just don't trade and don't pick up anything that someone drops.
If you get corrupted there are numerous ways you can try to get the game un-corrupted.
There are also numerous threads here that describe what you should do if you get corrupted, check them.

first of, welcome

then, to prevent fsods as much as possible, dont enter games from full lobbies. since the game could freeze on the way back out.
go to another, later lobby by using the lobby teleporter that faces the gameguild-counter.

ingame fsod... when piping to another area, always equip your most precious stuff - or when you need 2 weapons, have only one that is rare and the other one should be expendable in the worst case.
the same goes for mags and everything else.

lobby fsod... hm... if you've logged on rightaway, you can take all the risk since you wont lose anything, but once you were in a game, you'll lose all your unequipped stuff if you freeze during jumping from ship to ship and/or block to block.
so be careful when you want to enter full ships, or when you want to switch continental servers (jp to us or us to eu for example).

all fsods are quite rare.

concerning dupes... simply dont trade with people you dont know. if a deal sounds too good, then its probably a dupe. if the items looks too rare, then its probably a dupe.
the difficult part is that you'll have to know about every rare weapon and item where to get it and how hard this is. this will come with time. so if you want to trade, inform yourself about the item you'll get and if its worth the item you're about to give. thats all.

good luck

damn..sounds like there's a lot of crap that could go wrong and ruin your day by playing online..I think all this should be fixed, personally..if possible, that is.

The "fsod"s..what causes them? Internal server errors? Heavy server load? Blah.

Lemme see..hacking/duping. Not even gonna ask how it's done, as it's irrelevant and pointless anyway. Takes all the fun out of rare hunting !

If you want to stay legit, never trade.

You could just play c-mode or certain battle modes to avoid temptation

The best way to decrease your changes of DC/FSOD is probably to invest in a router.

Oh yea, welcome.

yeah trading does take all the fun out of rare hunting. . .but when i first bought the game i went over to my friends and signed up for it but when i was playing with him what happended was his online friend tosh wanted something duped cause a guy asked and the guy lifted a bunch of stuff it hurt when my friend told me all that he lifted god body, legs, the whole bit and a bunch of rare weapons but i've had the same guy come in twice and ask if i wanted anything duped. . . .he came back 5 minutes later asking the same thing.
