I personally cannot wait for DAoC (www.darkageofcamelot.com, www.camelotvault.com). Everytime more info gets released for that game I get shivers. Other than that I'm also interested in Neocron (www.neocron.com), game kinda seems too good to be true, but the trailer rocks. A little in Anarchy Online too, but only cause my friend got into the beta and told me it's damned good. You?

"Massively Multiplayer Online RPG/RolePlaying Game"

Basically a skill/level gain type game, like a MUD, but with servers that hold thousands of people. Only 3 are out right now, UO (Ultima Online) which came out a few years back, and the more recent 2, Asheron's Call, and the popular Everquest. Within the next 2 years I think around 10 or more are going to be released, so it's definately a discussion worthy topic

MMORPG is Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (games like Asheron's Call, Everquest, and Ultima Online).

Not sure where I'd end up. Asheron's Call is supposedly getting a sequel (i say supposedly due to the history of Microsoft and announcement dates), so that might be a slight possibility for me. I've heard Anarchy Online might be good.

I'd be disturbed if Sega tried making Phantasy Star Online 2 in this fashion though, the style of MMORPG wouldn't fit with the seemingly needed 'gratification for work done' mentality of Console games (MMORPG's don't actually have an ENDING persay, just a completion of a storyline and moving on to the next with no flashy graphic display). The upside to not having every person in the same world is that if someone is just being a complete jerk, you can just leave the room and make another without sacrificing quality of the hunting ground because of a few brainless egos (EQ is a high example of such mentality, AC has its numerous moments in this catagory as well).

Although this game doesn't count, I'm going to say "Neverwinter Nights"

I have had bad experiences with MMORPGs. Illusia, The Realm, UO, and then EQ...all gave me nightmares.

However, NWN has one thing that simply drives me CRAZY...

The ability to craft my own AD&D Modules, then Run them online, and play a DM as people join my world.

Imagine being able to inhabit an NPC and have a conversation with someone who entered your game and they don't know if its the game, or the DM.

Imagine inhabiting a monster, and then BEGGING the party that joined your game not to kill you. Imagine the depth such a system would allow.

Now, they tried this with Vampire the masquerade, and although the idea was right, the implementation was all wrong.

From what I've seen, Neverwinter Nights looks like it will be my obsession.

I already have the story written, and as soon as the game comes out, I'm making the module. Five of my ICQ AD&D fans have already offered to try it out once its done.

I can't wait....

It's not even out yet..? Wow, I thought it came out like a year ago. That being said.. I've heard of it, but definately don't follow it. The moment I heard it was based off of the baldur's gate engine it immediately turned me off (Hate that pausing/resuming stuff..).

no no! It's not based off of the infinity engine, thank God!!!!

It uses a new entirely 3D engine, you can see the demo on the..well, BG2 startup disc

It's due out late this summer, though I smell a Christmas release.

Strange, but then again I do remember seeing that in an article a /while/ ago. 3D eh.. that's cool. I'll have to check it out when it comes out. I've always liked D&D (though I didn't play much, it's dead around here) but hated the way all these games try to emulate it. Shoulda seen the look on my face when I discovered the "pause" function in BG was an integral part of the game.. "why's this damned thing keep pausing on me?" *hits keyboard button 'pause' repeatedly*

btw Sheo, sent ya PM if you get a chance to check it out.
