Hi there, I have a couple of questions regarding playing online. Currently, my connection is SBC DSL via a PPPoE modem. I have a GC with a BBA. Right now I've only been going online to trade & give Paganini his precious photon drops, but I'd like to check out the new quests & feel safer concerning the FSOD-X. So...
  • What router would you recommend? I don't foresee needing more than 4 ports.
  • My roommate also has a GC, but no ISP. Is it possible for two GCs to share my service? If so, how would I update the settings on the router & the 2 GCs? I know we'd need separate HLs.
Please let me know if you need more info. Thanks much! Q~

Oops, sorry, I knew I left something out. It's an Ethernet modem - a Speedstream 5100.

Thanks, Q~

FSODX is one of those things that just happens, it doenst happen as much as you think and it wont affect most people.
to help avoid it, and FSOD, use an offifical card, if you have two cards, create another save, then donate some items to your new save characater ( messata, mage etc) so if one card beocomes corupted you have a quick way to re-level.

back to the conection types.
you have an ethernet modem, with a single ethernet output, on a cbale or DSL ( variant) conection.

the simplest way to connect would be to unplug the ehternet cable to your p.c and plug your gamecube in.
However doing this, you can only use one device at a time.

Another method would be internet conection sharing on your p.c ( win 98se and above)
for this you need a spare ethernet card and a crossover cable to your gamecube bba.
enabel internet conection sharing in windows to your new/secondary ethernet card thats conected to your gamecube, and you can use both your p.c online at the same time as the gamecube is online.
Advantages, both devices can be online at the same time, p.c acts a bit like a router.
Disadvantges, P.C must be online and stay conected, otherwise the gamecube will disconect or lose the conection.

Router and Ethernet modem
Routher connected to ethernet modem with the gamecube and p.c conected to router.

Router/Modem combined unit.
this is in effect a 4 port ethernet modem, usualy found on DSL (ADSL/SDSL/VDSL) lines.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to try the router & modem connection (PC & GC -> router -> modem). First thing I'll do is find a good router, then I'll worry about the two GC hookup later.

Thanks, Q~

You could get either the Linksys, D-Link or the Belkin Router. I have the Belkin and right now, my brother is playing PSO and i'm typing this. There is a new model, that is horizontal instead of the tower like old version. Either one is perfect for PSO, and easy to configure.

If you have more questions, you could check my Modem/BBA FAQ at Gamefaqs.com (or Faqs.Ign.com)...

http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/game...ame/12177.html

Both sites have the latest version. The 3.0. I'll have to update it sometime soon...
