Um, I know people here snowboard, or some of them do... so I need some advice.

How do you snowboard?

Mitch and I are going tomorrow, and right now our current plan is to go to the top of the hill, and make it down without killing ourselves. And I'm bringing a camera along, too.

So yes, please give any advice that you possibly can.

Well make sure you go on a trail that meets your skill or you'll be killing yourself as well as some people down the hill. Are you doing greens blues or blacks?

Keep your knees bent.

Don't be afraid to fall; it probably won't hurt.

Be prepared to be incapacited the next day. You'll be sore in muscles you didn't even know you had. ^_^

The first day sucks, but stick with it. It gets a lot better.

Ha, thanks for the support Lollipop. Its our local college ski hill, I think we'll be starting off with nothing but greens.

The ski hill has like 6 runs or so, and its diamond run is like an intermediate run at the rest of the ski hills in the area. ^-^

Yup, lots of Kodak moments today....

The thing I see new snowboarders doing the most is when they try to turn, they keep the board flat on the snow and try to move their back foot. This doesn't work, and you will just fall.

What you have to do is turn on the edge of the board, this way you will actually be able to turn. It's hard to do slow, which is probably why people think it is hard to learn to snowboard.

Got back from snowboarding about an 1.25 hours ago (One hour and fifteen minutes), and I am tired. Well, maybe not tired but my legs are sore as hell, and it feels wierd just walking around.

It was good fun. I would have some pictures but the batteries died in the camera... it would have been a very nice picture of Mitch and I, as we would have been standing there, in the sunset, with the scenery on the edge of the mountain below us. You know those picture-esque scenes you see on top of a mountain, with trees and everything sprawling? Yes, it would have been that, too.

But yeah, we're going again sometime once I'm not so frickin sore. Probably next week, and I'll be sure to bring a camera with decent batteries in it!

best way to learn to snowboard is learning to fall. I mean, no one really falls snowboarding (I certainly don't) you crash.

If you've taken a martial arts you'll know, but when you fall the best thing to do isn't to panic but to throw your arms down and let your arms absorb the shock. Your butt will thank you for it.

You can't learn if you are scared, but don't be stupid You should work on being able to stop, working on leaning on heel and toe "falling leaf" patterns. Traversing on steeper hills etc. Hope that helps, good luck with that. I just bought my equipment this week and I'm waiting for it to come in. *super excited*

I used this simple method...

Crouch, as if you're balancing yourself on a halfpipe. Don't lean back and not to far foward. Experiment on low turf, it'll get you somewhere. Even if you fall, don't think about tilting the board on it's sides. This results in ankle injury, however... Snowboarding becomes natural... unless you're into learning tricks.
