Japanese magazine Dorimaga has published its review for Phantasy Star Online Episode 1 & 2.

The magazine is like EGM and has up to 5 (more reviewers for higher priority games) to as little as 3 for lesser games.

Fears of this being a quick port or any lesser game can be put aside.

The issue of Dorimaga gave these scores (out of 10):

Phantasy Star Online Episode 1 & 2 (GC, Sega): 9 / 9 / 9 / 10 / 9
Ikaruga (DC, Treasure): 9 / 8 / 9
Ever17: The Out of Infinity (DC, Kid): 7 / 7 / 7
Gigantic Drive (PS2, Enix): 7 / 7 / 8
18 Wheeler (GC, Sega): 7 / 6 / 6
Shin Sangoku Musou 2 Mushouden (Koei, PS2): 8 / 8 / 9 / 8
Ninja Assault (PS2, Namco): 7 / 8 / 8
Switch (PS2, Sega): 6 / 5 / 5
Black/Matrix Zero (GBA, NEC): 7 / 6 / 6
Mr. Driller Ace (GBA, Namco): 9 / 7 / 8
Sega GT 2002 (Xbox, Sega): 7 / 7 / 7
Simple 2000 Series Vol. 1: Renai Adventure, The: Bitter Sweet Fools (DC, D3): 7 / 7 / 6
Panel Quiz Attack 25 (PS2, Digicube): 7 / 8 / 7
Flight Academy (Xbox, Aqua Systems): 6 / 6 / 6 / 8
Hooligan: Kimi no Naka no Yuuki (PS2, Pacific Century): 7 / 7 / 6
Princess Blue: Hime Kishi Monogatari (Game Boy Advance, Tonkin House): 7 / 5 / 6

So basically PSO was 'Game of the Issue', ala EGM's 'Game of the Month'.

The only magazine that really matters in Japan, from what I have heard, is Fumitsu.

Dorimaga and Famitsu both are known to give similar-ish scores, but you're right in that Famitsu is a more popular magazine.

This news is also good because to makes me think there won't be any more delays.

Publishers push game magazines to review their new games well in advance of release so as to increase the interest and secure more sales.

...not that EpI&II needs that kinda publicity to sell well!

Speaking of which, i wonder if pso attually had tv commercials how many more people would play it. Huge numbers already play it with a small add campaign.

It may have been game of the issue/month, but it didn't have much competition.

Famitsu gave the first PSO release a good score because you could chat online with it.

Just some food for thought.
