I've always wondered this. I'm writing a Fanfic, and would like to have some suggestions on how they could work.

Hmmm...lets see...

A Mag forms the most vital piece of equipment for all hunters, this small ai driven creature acts a a guardian and comapnion to hunters as they go about their business. Each is unique as their growth is directly linked to the behavious and personality of their owner. Like the ancient devices in which people took care of a simple 'pet' which grew as it was interacted with so does a mag. Multiple variations and types have been reported as mags are know to evolve as they grow into a number of distinct species.

Each mag is constructed by Pioneer 2's scientists using similar materials to those used in the creation of the hunters weapon and armour and as such mas can consume a considerable amoutn of punishment in the even they are attacked. As the mag evolves it gains the ability to summon photonics, creatures made of pure photonic energy which can be called forth to defend or assist their master in the heat of battle. Most commonly identified are Farlla, the wurm like creature, Estlla, the dolphin like creature and Leilla, the sorceress. Each of these can be summoned forth by a mag in times of danger. This is performed by the mag using the photonic energy stored when it or its master is attacked and then when it reaches a sufficient level using it to manifest one of the photonics. The range of phtonics that a mag can produce gorws as it evolves but to date the maximum number known to have been achieved is three.

In addition to the properties noted above some mags have the capacity to cast certain techniqques such as shifta and deband or resta with some more advanced types even being capable of using reverser. Another proerty in some cases is the ability for the mag to cast a shield around its master, once charged sufficiently its creates a photon barrier which resist almost all formsd of attack. However there have been cases noted that during battles with Dark Falz hunters have sustained injury even whilst invulnerable. However since Dark Falz was defeated no furtherv research into how he was able to breach this field has been possible.

Finally it is worth noting that a mag has feelings. When their master is happy the mag is often happy, when the master is unhappy the mag is too. In some ways it seems that there is a deeper psychological bond than can be recorded but still this remains pure speculation. There are also reports of androids having limited capacity to communicate with mags although there has been only one case reported, Dr Montauge's assisstant Elenor. However as the docotr would not allow any tests to be performed against her will and Elenor was reluctant no further research has been done. The greatest demonstration of the link between a hunter and their mag is demonstrated if the hunter is killed. Mags have been know to float down to their masters bodies and remain there. In some cases they have been known to attack people who try and remove them or touch their masters body.

In conclusion a Mag is a vital part of every Hunters life. It protects him and keep him company even in the darkest times. We should all be thankfull for our mags and the service they provide for us...

It boost your abilities (stronger, faster, etc.) and helps you out with its special powers if you're in a real jam.

A spiritual pet, living in sinbiosis with the character.

That's what I would put if I remembered to write about mags in my fanfic.
