This is in the sense of students who work their asses off and lose their drive. Also, how can a burnout get back on track?

Burning out happens to everyone, with anything.

To get back on track, I'd recommend a break from whatever you're doing, so you don't have a mental breakdown. Then, you re-evaluate your goals and aim, and either get back in the groove(maybe with some alteration so you don't get so easily burnt out) or set in a different direction.

Look, he did it again.

I know what you mean- the best way to stop it that I've found is to vary my tasks. For example, with my project I'm doing, I do a couple of hours in 3DS Max modelling my city, then get a drink and do a little of the accompanying report. After another hour or so, I'll go back into the model again.

Although, to be honest, I'm of the kind who leaves everything till last minute.

Dawn will break through blackest night.

Clear your mind, play some tetris, or something else you can really get into (I'm kinda weird when it comes to getting into something...).

When you're satisfied and refreshed, take a short break (water, coffee, whatever), and try working again.

ProTip: To damage your credibility, simply call any of the Phantasy Star games "massively-multiplayer."

Take a break, long or short doesn't matter. Just relax & get your mind of it, whatever way you can. A stressed mind is unproductive, unless you can work well under pressure.

Heh, only if I knew I suffered from this back in my 2nd college year I could have found way to save my grades. ;]

Blink & you'd miss it! ;3
