http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...081000152.html

Abbriviated version was that the UK police were aware of this for some time and informed Bush. Bush called for the FBI not to leak any info. When the plan was to be set in motion, the UK police put a halt on it. Capturing 21 of the suspected 50.

The items that were to be used were bottles of the UK version of gatorade (mixed with some chemical), and iPods.

The iPods would be the detonators by electrical infusion or something along those boarders. It's pretty nice to know that after all this time, we can still keep it contained, but it's sad to know that this kind of stuff still happens.

The ironic thing is, I have a friend who's flying to Mexico on Monday.
11 hour flight, and there's gonna be nothing to do. He even bought a PSP so he could play it on the flight... looks like that's out of the window XP

(lol at the fact nappies and nappy cream are some of the few things on the list of allowed hand luggage)

Ive found it amusing how British TV is making this out differently to the US.

All the US reports Ive seen have been: 'We believe the attacks were to be directed at the US, most likely New York'.

All of the UK reports are: 'The terrorists planned to detonate planes in mid-flight'.

Doesn't sound like it was anything like 9/11 to be honest, instead they seemed to be smuggling bombs in hand-luggage to detonate the jets in mid-flight.

Considering upto 10 jets may have been targeted by this plot, the death toll could've been massive- reported to be possibly bigger than the death toll of 9/11.

Great to see it's been (hopefully) foiled before it could have been carried out though, I just feel sorry for people needing to use airports- loads of flights are cancelled/delayed for 7 hours or more...

Edit: Security is crazy, but necessary- even bottled baby milk is only allowed on a plane if the baby can drink a sample first, for fear of a liquid explosive. Glasses can be taken, but not in a case. Mobile Phones/Laptops (obviously) are banned too.

Even a military flight to Iraq ws affected- the families of the soldiers flying out had to say their goodbyes outside of the airport.
