By Saladwood at 05/18/2004 - 10:55am
PSO Blue BurstST posted announcing the start of the open beta trial of PSOBB will start on May 21, 2004. If you wish to participate, you will need the client disk which will be included in the June 4.18 issue of the Japanese Dorimaga magazine of the June 8 issue of the Japanese Techwin magazine. Their sites will also start offering exlusive downloads with no charge. You will also need a Game ID to register. Anyone with an email address can register for a Game ID.

Well, the list of districts didn't turn out how I liked. If you need a district to use in your address, just copy one of the lines from this page:

http://www.r-base.net/psometro.htm

by Nites (not verified) on Tue, 05/18/2004 - 12:18pm
How did you get your name in katakana and the other form???

by Anonymous on Tue, 05/18/2004 - 1:31pm
Use Windows 2000 or Windows XP's IME thingy then change language to Japanese and input mode from direct input to Katakana or Hiragana.

by Rain_1 on Tue, 05/18/2004 - 12:18pm
I did manage to make a subscription... the page said the information should be mailed back to me, but it has been 40 minutes and no sign of the email.. should i be concerned?

by Rain_1 on Tue, 05/18/2004 - 12:40pm
Just though i'd let everyone know that, with my regular non .jp email, i could do the registration, but the email with the username and password never arrived.

When i did it for the third time with my .jp email, the username and id arrived in the exact same instant... now only if i had the client.. sigh... :P

by Anonymous on Tue, 05/18/2004 - 1:33pm
I got the e-mail on two yahoo.com's, one .org, and another hotmail.com

Ok, got it.. Had a problem, forgot that you needed letters and numbers for the ID. Signed up with the same info again, fixed that, and recieved the Email. No prob, Bob.

by Anonymous on Wed, 05/26/2004 - 5:56am

by Anonymous on Fri, 05/21/2004 - 4:58pm

by KatanaMaster on Tue, 05/18/2004 - 12:41pm

by Anonymous on Thu, 05/20/2004 - 4:45am
It says that they will offer FREE downloads on their website. You don't need the disc.

by MakoSOLDIER on Tue, 05/18/2004 - 2:48pm
I am also confused about this...

by Broken Hope (not verified) on Tue, 05/18/2004 - 3:38pm
Any multi language operating system, such as windows 2000 or windows xp should be okay

by AndyPandy on Wed, 05/19/2004 - 4:17am
Im sure it wont work if its written for Japanese operating systems.

by Anonymous on Fri, 05/28/2004 - 4:34pm
Worx fine :D

by Anonymous on Wed, 05/19/2004 - 1:28pm
I got my ID, no problems there... but where we will be able to download it from? Anyone know the URLs of those magazine sites?

by Antimony (not verified) on Wed, 05/19/2004 - 3:16pm
The download will be out on the 21st of may, and will no doubt be available from the psobb website, http://psobb.jp

by Anonymous on Wed, 05/19/2004 - 3:30pm
I sure hope so! :)

The problem is that PSOW is reporting that the download will be available at the magazines sites:
If you wish to participate, you will need the client disk which will be included in the June 4.18 issue of the Japanese Dorimaga magazine of the June 8 issue of the Japanese Techwin magazine. Their sites will also start offering exlusive downloads with no charge.

Is PSOW wrong, then?

No matter what, if anyone knows those magazines websites, please post the URLs... ;)

by Arislan on Wed, 05/19/2004 - 6:48pm
Arislan's picture
Slightly. It's the 5/21 issue of Dremaga (today) and the 6/8 Issue of Techwin. The download starts "At the Beginning of June". No more info than that given by ST at this time.

by Anonymous on Wed, 05/19/2004 - 11:58pm
Maybe someone who gets the magazines could set up a torrent or something? That'd be uber cool.

by Anonymous on Fri, 05/21/2004 - 4:14am
But Arislan, the info on the link below don't say "when" the download will be available:

http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/trurl_pagecontent?lp=ja_en&url=http%3a%2f%2fpsobb.jp%2fpso%2fnewfact_01.html

And other pages also don't show any date. Where did you saw the date for release of the downloadable version?

by Shrike on Thu, 05/20/2004 - 3:08pm
it says: Their sites will also start offering exlusive downloads with no charge. meaning the download will be from the magazine sites and the psobb site.

by Anonymous on Thu, 05/20/2004 - 3:22pm
It could mean the magazine will provide that in addition to the CD.

by Anonymous on Thu, 05/20/2004 - 12:00am
OK, I got the First email, registered finally (after much difficulty I might add), and got the second email. Does anyone know what the second one says? I use hotmail and it just appears as a bunch of gibberish, even with the language packs installed.

by Shrike on Thu, 05/20/2004 - 3:52pm
The second email tells you which one of your usernames are picked, and gives you your temporary password. The password is located just below where your username is. It should look somethin like this:

$B!!%2!<%`(JID$B!'(J***username***
$B!!%2!<%`%Q%9%o!<%I!'(J***password***

by Anonymous on Thu, 05/20/2004 - 6:27pm
OK, located and changed my password... hope this works...

by Shrike on Thu, 05/20/2004 - 3:15pm
I couldn't get it to accept my email either, then later I tried again and it worked... I think it might have been because i was using the babelfish translator the first few times.

by Anonymous on Fri, 05/21/2004 - 4:02am
Yes, that's a problem. When I used babelfish there were errors on some pages, using without it, it wen't on without a problem. :)

by Anonymous on Sat, 05/22/2004 - 6:30am
mM I am having problems, when I first signed up with my email they sended me a confirmation letter then it asked me to put my surname and information. When I put it I get some error that I cannot read. Anyone know how to fill that application form out?

by Anonymous on Sat, 05/22/2004 - 11:39pm
It's hard. You have to somehow enter your name properly in both Hiragana first, then Katakana in the second line. They both have to make sense. It can't just be like ASDRFSKJF. It will give you an error for that. I'm not sure exactly what error you're talking about, but if it's the one I had, that's how I fixed it. I couldn't read the error messages either.

by Anonymous on Sun, 05/23/2004 - 11:34am

by Anonymous on Sun, 05/23/2004 - 10:53pm

by dark_force on Wed, 05/26/2004 - 3:11pm
CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE WRITE WHAT YOU SUPPOSSED TO TYPE IN ON THOSE FORMS, GIVING NAMES AND EVERYTHING CAUSE IT WONT MATTER IF ITS THE SAME DO U KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE IN JAPAN GOT THE SAME EXACT NAME?? I'M SO HAPPY FOR MYSELF AND BLAH, BLAH, BLAH!!!!! ....THANKS..

by Anonymous on Thu, 05/27/2004 - 3:42pm
It isn't THAT hard! Use babel fish to translate! All I did was enter the name that they use as an example! Then I translated it into the other kana and used it there! HOW HARD IS THAT? STOP RELYING ON OTHERS FOR THE SIMPLEST OF DECISIONS. It DOES require a brain to sign up!

by Anonymous on Thu, 05/27/2004 - 4:56am

by Anonymous on Mon, 06/07/2004 - 1:36am
OK. It's a bit complicated but I'll try to help you out. OK. First. We breathe in. Then we breathe out. If you have XP, go to Start, -> Control Panel -> Date, Time, Language, Regional options -> Regional and Language options -> Advanced Tab -> Check "10001 (MAC - Japanese)" and maybe 10002 and 10003, but I don't think those are mandatory. -> Languages tab -> Check "Install Files for East Asian languages -> Apply. You will probably be asked for an XP cd, so get one ready. After installing, back on the languages tab, click details. -> Add -> Under INPUT LANGUAGE, NOT KEYBOARD LAYOUT, BUT INPUT LANGUAGE, select Japanese. Hit Key settings, and then on switch between input languages, make sure there is some way to switch languages with the keyboard (e.g. Ctrl + Shift). Hit OK, hit ok again, restart if you need to, and start up PSO. When you get to the login screen, use the keyboard method of switching languages (Ctrl + Shift) and THEN you should be able to enter characters. If it doesn't work, try mashing the ctrl + shift buttons and the arrow keys until you see a little string of japanese characters appear on the left. It should work then. It should be noted that the characters will only appear when you are in a text-enterable area, such as the log-in box. Remember. Breathe in, breathe out. Post AIM SN if further assistance is needed. For 98 users, sorry I haven't figured out a way to get this to work for them. In fact, I installed XP solely for playing PSO.

1. goto http://psobb.jp/freedl.html
2. step 2 download client
3. step 3 make new ID
a. write fast mail address for register
i used hotmail and i get reply within 1 sec.
b. you will get a mail with web address -> press it
c. your web browser must include japanese
language support.
d. ths register form requires to input chinese

you must input your name in chinese and
japanese. if you have problem. just copy

Open Beta Test is OPEN! Official BBS is OPEN! Official page is UPDATED!

The CD is on the Dorimaga magazine, and people are already connecting to the servers.

I think that soon we will see a dump of that Dorimaga CD floating around... please, post urls/info here! :D

by Anonymous on Fri, 05/21/2004 - 5:52am
Dorimaga ("SoftBank") site: http://www.itmedia.co.jp/games/dorimaga/
Techwin site: http://www.enterbrain.co.jp/techwin/

Until now, no news about PSO BB downloads on Dorimaga site... And they still have the contents of the last magazine edition (April 23) instead of the one of today :(

Thank you for the link. I do hate coming here... Again giving the devil his due.

by Anonymous on Mon, 05/24/2004 - 8:50am
well the link seems not to be working 'cause it cannot be downloaded completely, won't let me get it do u know why??

by Anonymous on Mon, 05/24/2004 - 11:27am
Make sure you have a torrenting program, such as torrentstorm. Without it, you just download the torrent file, which is more or less a link to the download. So it doesn't do you much good if you don't have the program to download it with. Be patient for it to start, too. It seems to take longer to start than other torrents for some reason, and may spit errors at you in the meantime, but mine completed this morning so it should be all good. Just be patient. I WANT A PSOW ACCT. DMMT!!

by Anonymous on Mon, 05/24/2004 - 4:35pm
OK, I just tested it. It works, all right. Now there's a problem with inputting characters so that you can enter your username. Apparently the japanese systems use a different keying system. There's gotta be some way to do this. I'm thinking of writing an executable that waits like 50 seconds and then enters the info, since you can't do it by keyboard. Now I just need a way to find out what I need to enter. Can someone who knows about the japanese operating systems inform me more about this?
