EXCLUSIVE! Xbox 360 Servers To Be Separated
By Tomeeboy at 04/24/2006 - 22:31
Phantasy Star UniverseIt has been common knowledge for some time that the PS2 and PC versions of PSU will be linked together, allowing players on either platform to interact with each other. There has been much speculation about whether or not the Xbox 360 servers would be included in this as well. PSOW has learned from an official source that, at this time, the Xbox 360 servers (which will use the Xbox Live service) are planned to be independant of the PS2 and PC servers and will not be linked. This means that if you're planning to meet up with your friends in PSU, it might be a good idea to pick your platforms accordingly, as it appears the Xbox 360 PSU community will playing exclusively with other Xbox Live players.

While this may not be a surprise to some, it does open the door for a lot more speculation, which will undoubtedly end up in our Phantasy Star Universe Forum, so head over there now to discuss this breaking news that you heard here first! Also, be sure to keep checking back for an upcoming announcement regarding this year's E3 convention and PSU!

they may be doing this becuase paying for a hunters licence on PSOX was total bull $hit after paying for xbox live (on another note Final Fantasy XI for the 360 is pay to play ($11.95)) wonder when the Backwards compatabiltiy on PSOX will be working on the Xbox 360 laterz

by Anonymous on Tue, 04/25/2006 - 01:31
Xbox players shouldn't get a free ride just because people choose to use Xbox live (the old xbox and the 360) with newer xbox you get a choice to use either free or paid service. Microsoft has NOTHING to do if a game developer charges xbox players for online subcription and or fees to their game.

Hah! You know I expected as much. As much as it would've been nice to see them connected I figured that, based on PSOGC and PSOX, it would be separated. As they say, "The plot thickens."

God damn $#@%ing $^&*!!!!! Grrrrrr... NOOOOOOOOOOO This sux. It totally does. I hope sega come to their senses and link the servers. It will be the same game! This will only prevent people from buying the game, not the other way round. I got a friend who hates PCs, doesnt have a PS2, but said he was gonna buy PSU for XBOX 360 now that it was announced to be released. I'm going to play it on PS2 (dont have xbox 360 yet) AND NOW WE CANT PLAY TOGETHER!!! This blows. And the only reason is because of microsoft and Xbox live AS ALWAYS. I hope they rot in hell and implode while at it. Here's hoping that the Revolution will get it too and that at least THAT one will be linked to the PC and PS2 versions :P

Isn't this old news? Since they reported that PSU will come out for XBox360 they said it will use Xbox Live! which is known to not be compatible.

by Anonymous on Tue, 04/25/2006 - 16:04
Why not compatible? One of Microsoft's big announcements at GDC was that they're opening up xbox live so developers could use their own servers for stuff like this.

by Lux on Tue, 04/25/2006 - 20:53
Don't know the exact reason but it must be the same as for Final Fantasy XI. They decided not to use XBox Live! on Xbox360 because they'd lose compatibility, they said.

Actualy, xbox live is compatable. There are other potential live reasons for the seperation however. One being a different priceing strategy, another being voice.
I dont know how set in stone this is either, its a little ways out, and there is no technical reason they couldnt link the servers at a later date... unless it is a priceing issue.

by Anonymous on Wed, 04/26/2006 - 19:15
"Actualy, xbox live is compatable", mind explaing how it is compatable? What if xbox live is a server of it's own just for xbox players mmm?

by Anonymous on Wed, 04/26/2006 - 07:22
That made my choice easy.PC it is for me.Glad my PC is as good as a 360.I also was wondering if the PC & PS2 versions would have voice.Odds are they won't.It'll suck, but rather play with the many more people on the mix then play on XBL where the game will never get updated.

by Anonymous on Wed, 04/26/2006 - 12:48
its better if the voice chat people are lumped together, whats the hells the point playing if you have no form of commincation with ps2/pc users

im guessing the ps2/pc servers wont be configured for voice chat unlike the 360s one

360 has a usb that allows for keyboards fyi

and i'm happy about this FFXI doesn't have xbox live in it. as an xbox 360 owner i can't live w/o xbox live and if PSU didn't have it I wouldn't buy the game plain and simple as I decided not to with FFXI (I'm getting sick of WoW need a new MMO to latch onto)

by Anonymous on Thu, 04/27/2006 - 23:12

on the contrarey when you send a text message through the 360 dash board and 360 games you can use a usb keyboard...

Disappointing, considering how the PC version is probably the most technically superior version of the three, and now it will be linked with the most technically "inferior" version. Bad move on ST's part, I thought we got away from this segregated bs after PSO (lord knows I've failed to convert many GC PSO lovers for PSOBB). Here's hoping they reconsider.

by Anonymous on Sun, 04/30/2006 - 15:27
If they have FFXI on Xbox 360 linked, then why the heck not PSU??? It just doesn't make sense to me.

by Anonymous on Mon, 05/01/2006 - 17:50
"Inferior" or not what should it matter people will have their way of playing the game. People who do not like Playstaion 2 don't have to play that version. As for the whole "Bad move on ST's part" people failed to realize xbox live is Microsoft server (an isolated one none the less Microsoft's). Sonic Team had likely nothing to do with the separation they are just creating their game(s) on to multiple platforms so players of all kinds can enjoy like any other game creator would do. Could it likely be possible that Microsoft themselves wanted the separation? Xbox is the only one that is going to be using headset while Playstation 2 and PC wont (PC can if they use chat programs while playing the game but it won’t be the same as Xbox live will have it).

by Anonymous on Tue, 05/02/2006 - 17:36
PC & PS2 can use voice chat.Socom is a series that uses voice on PS2(not sure how crappy or good it is).Sega should have just done what Square Enix did & just lay it out. They will be linked or there will be no PSU for 360.I love & hate voice chat.
About 60% of the time I played PSOX,some retard was either having some noise constantly going off or cussing for no reason.I may get the 360 version still, cuz odds are in it's favor to be hacked the slowest or not at all.PC or PS2 version are a toss up in hacking of it.PS2 has action replay & PC has too many tools to hack with.Still, with MS' record on updating PSO US(about 40% of the JP content & a few skipped events) I can't realy say wich I will get.
Especialy since MS has shown the lack of updates now for 360(super slow BC,demos in late, etc).

by Anonymous on Wed, 05/03/2006 - 06:16
GOOD! I don't wanna play w/ PC ppl and especially PS2. Voice chat and XBL whats not to like. Nothing like ps2's to bring down bandwidth

by Anonymous on Wed, 05/03/2006 - 18:48
"Nothing like ps2's to bring down bandwith"... lol nice one although makes zero sense how will Playstaion2 version bring down bandwith.

by link3680 on Fri, 05/05/2006 - 18:46
Because he's an XBOX and Microsoft fanboy and thinks that the PS2 being inferior to the big bad 360 will slow down gameplay.

by Anonymous on Sat, 05/27/2006 - 01:42
Xbox 360 will be the best bitch. ps2 sucks, fuckin laggy online shit
